The VA Hudson Valley Health Care System (HVHCS) is looking for Physicians/Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) to provide services in the Medicine & Specialties Service.

The MOD would function as the facility's medical officer during WHEN hour shifts. WHEN hours are as follows: weekends, holidays, evenings and nights. The candidate will be responsible for our Urgent Care as well as for clinical management of admissions and discharges on our inpatient and extended care units. The incumbent is responsible for overall clinical leadership during his/her assigned duty hours.
During WHEN hours the MOD Physician will complete the history and physician examination (including all required history and physical findings documented in the medical record) and all medically necessary patient care orders for patient and will enter appropriate orders into the VA medical records computer system called CPRS. Board certification or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine is preferred. He/she must maintain BLS and ACLS.
Physicians are covered under the Tort Claims Protection Act.
The maximum annual limitation of earnings is $156,000 per annum.
This is a temporary position. This appointment is for the duration of the fiscal year. There are no benefits offered with this position.

Compensation is based on hourly rate $75-100 depending on location. The annual limitation will be set per applicant to $156,000 per annum to ensure ceiling cap for federal pay is not exceeded in a Fiscal Year.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/01/2020.
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements: Position requires moderate lifting, pushing and pulling: reaching above the shoulders; walking and standing; kneeling and repeated bending. All applicants must be physically and mentally stable to perform efficiently the duties of the position.
