Responsibilities
This position is located at Biloxi, Mississippi in the Operating Room Section of Surgery Service, at the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System. The duties and responsibilities are carried throughout the medical center including all administrative and clinical areas involved in the service. Travel may be required in rare occurrences.
The anesthesiologist provides specialized care in pain management and administers anesthesia to patients during surgical procedures. The incumbents' scope of practice also includes the management of pre-procedural care, intra-procedural care, post-procedural care, evaluation and treatment of the patient to include cardiopulmonary resuscitation and respiratory care problems.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm with on-call requirement

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2019.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board Certification/Board Eligibility is highly desired.
Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
Physical Requirements: Physician must be physically able to perform basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation and must be able to stand up to one hour consecutively. Physician must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and have tactile sensitivity to perform intubations correctly. Physician must possess auditory and visual acuity to function capably and safely in an operating room. Physician must possess appropriate flexibility and ranges of motion to fulfill the physical demands of providing clinical and anesthesia services to patients appropriately.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
