The Pharmacy Technician position is located within the Pharmacy
Service at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center.
This position provides technical and ancillary support, to process
and fill outpatient prescriptions. This position is also directly
involved in the unit dose management system. Assignments involve the
preparation/review/dispensing/control of medications/other
pharmaceutical products to patients, and inpatient treatment

Duties include but are not limited to:
Identifying basic therapeutic problems (e.g., duplication)
Performs extemporaneous prescription compounding which involves
associated skills and decision making. Applies advanced technical
working knowledge to fill prescription for hazardous medications and

Technicians will do monthly inspections at the CBOCs
Work Schedule: Wed-Sun 7-330pm.

(a) Experience. One year experience at the next lower level, and
must fully meet the KSAs at the next lower level. These are:
1. Ability to operate and care for automated dispensing devices and

3. Knowledge of basic inventory procedures.
4. Knowledge of pharmacy information systems.
(b) Certification. PTCB certification is required at this grade
level and above.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-06.
Physical Requirements: Walking, bending, stooping, sitting and
standing for long periods of time are required. Lifting, moving,
stacking or otherwise manipulating packages weighing up to 45 pounds
may be required. Electronic data entry, and reading and working with
figures for prolonged periods may also be required. Physical and
emotional stress may result from the technical workload pressures
inherent in this position. Work is performed in patient care areas
and in the pharmacy, where there is potential for exposure to
communicable diseases. Such areas are adequately heated and
ventilated, and normal safety precautions are required.
