Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic (Houston)

Seeking a US Veteran, National Guardsman, Reservist, and/or Military Spouse to apply for as a Diesel Mechanic on Heavy Equipment. Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair failures, including electrical, diesel engines, hydraulic and pneumatic. Service and maintain machinery in the field or shop. Job requires 1 to 5+ years of experience, mechanical knowledge to repair and maintain a variety of diesel equipment (such as construction, forestry or mining machinery), plus a complete set of tools.
Responsibilities: Veteran Military
- Apply your knowledge and certifications as an expert in heavy equipment maintenance.
- Repair equipment in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner whether in the field or shop.
- Troubleshoot electrical, engine, transmission, brakes, steering, frame, cab and hydraulic systems.
- Read diagrams, service manuals, service bulletins, and web-based trouble-shooting tools.
- Report on problems and estimate time and parts required to repair unit/equipment.
- Order new parts and follow up with parts department on backorders.
- Perform routine maintenance checks and adjustments (fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, and clutches); change filters and oil. Weld as needed.
- Submit paperwork: daily notes, timecards, tech-line reports, expense reports and warranty parts.
- Maintain service truck by filling out daily inspection reports and utilizing ELD.
- Attend meetings, seminars, and schools to increase knowledge.
Requirements: Veteran Military
- US Veteran, National Guardsman, Reservist or Military Spouse
- 1-5+ years of solid, advanced experience troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing minor to major failures including electrical, diesel engines, hydraulic and pneumatic
- complete set of tools
- Trade School (2-year degree) preferred
- Self-driven with strong customer service skills
- Valid driving record
- Knowledge of hand and mechanized tools, jacks, hoists, diagnostic testing and tuning equipment
- Skills to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions
- Skills to read manuals and schematics to rebuild engines and major driveline components
- Ability to enter information in repair management software
- Ability to lift, carry, reach, push, and/or pull; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl; and significant finger dexterity necessary
- Ability to lift 80+lbs and work in the field, an outdoor environment, or a busy industrial shop
