JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Sr Data Engineer will map source system data to data warehouse models, develop and test ETL processes, define and capture metadata and rules associated with ETL processes, and adapt ETL processes to accommodate changes in source systems and new business user requirements.
Responsibilities will include designing, programming, debugging, and supporting large-scale solutions on-prem and in the cloud (Google Cloud). Specifically, you’ll be designing and scaling the data engineering efforts for our Venus digital marketing products and platforms.
In this role, you'll work on understanding business problems so that you can build data solutions that allow people to make data-driven decisions. You'll develop a deep understanding of existing processes and data.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Responsible for establishing solid data requirements to integrate data from a variety of different data sources into the Venus Data Platform
- Clean, prepare and optimize data for ingestion and consumption in support of large, complex, scalable, end-to-end solutions
- Work with various stakeholders to identify and understand source data and source systems.
- Developing and testing ETL jobs/pipelines, configuring orchestration, configuring automated CI/CD, writing automation scripts, and supporting the pipelines in production.
- Collaborate with product owners, architects, analysts, and business users to design, implement, and deliver successful data solutions
- Troubleshoot complex, high-risk data issues and perform root cause analysis to proactively resolve product and operational issues
- Be an active participant and advocate of agile/scrum practice to ensure health and process improvements for your team
- Innovate constantly and stay current with the latest Big Data technologies while staying focused on solving large-scale and challenging problems in ecommerce.
- Mentor and develop other data engineers

QUALIFICATIONS:
- 8+ years of experience with relational database architecture, design and development
- 5+ years of experience working with ETL tools or Advanced SQL
- 3+ years of experience working on/ managing Data Warehousing projects (cloud preferred)
- Experience in programmatic ETL job/pipelines using open-source technologies on-prem and in the cloud
- Experience in developing shell scripting and automation
- Experience writing analytical SQL queries and in performance-tuning queries
- Understanding of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) using agile techniques
- Experience working in cloud solutions (Google Cloud preffered)
- Ability to work well in a team environment and independently
- Strong communication skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Attention to detail
EDUCATION:
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related engineering field or equivalent combination of education and experience
