Job Description

Valley Pacific is looking for a Business Development Specialist-Outside Salesperson for the Santa Rosa/Windsor/Cloverdale area. The Business Development Specialist-Outside Salesperson role is responsible for developing and closing business at both new and current VPPS accounts within a defined geographic and commercial segment focused area. The Business Development Specialist-Outside Salesperson will identify & develop new sales opportunities through the VPPS sales pipeline management system (CRM Tool) and coordinate support to help close new commercial products business at new and/or existing VPPS customers.

Prerequisite Skills / Education / Experience:

·        Excellent English-language oral communication skills: good written and analytical skills: fluency in the Spanish language is a plus but not required

·        Adequate understanding of word-processing, spreadsheet, database and presentational software

·        Valid California Driver’s License

·        Ability to pass appropriate muscular-skeletal fitness tests and drug-alcohol tests

·        Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business industry experience

·        3-5 years of business to business (BtoB) sales experience

Essential Job Responsibilities:

·        Must be able to spend considerable time driving to and from customer locations in a company vehicle.

·        Identify, develop and close new customer business including all products that VPPS offers including, commercial fuels, Diesel Exhaust Fluid and Lubricants to meet annual sales and profitability goals.

·        Communicate with other VPPS stakeholders and key supplier sales personnel for support to close business as required.

·        Gain the personal trust and professional confidence of all Valley Pacific stakeholders; shareholders, employees, customers, community and governmental representatives, creditors, suppliers and landlords.

·        Create and communicate value added presentations to end customers.

·        Understand VPPS Handbook and abide by company policies

Key Business Development Specialist-Outside Salesperson Skills:

·        Selling Skills: Learn to sell VPPS array of products and services to any customer from shop-floor to executive/owner – be fearless in going after new business.

·        Self-Motivation: Be energetic, focused and highly self-motivated: requiring limited supervision or follow-up after initial training in VPPS processes and products.

·        Customer Relationship Management: Ability to input opportunities and develop them through to close via the VPPS sales process.

·        Account Set-up Process: Submit complete credit packages and assist in obtaining all necessary documentation for billing, including exemption certificates, tax forms, special pricing forms, etc.

·        Customer and Business Focus: Be observant of changing customer expectations within the competitive environment: make suggestions as to how we can adapt.

·        Inter-Departmental Communications: Be able to smoothly and diplomatically coordinate personal selling efforts with accounting and distribution personnel. Openly communicate in a respectful & positive manner, while maintaining reasonable expectations.

·        Vendors: Maintain excellent supplier/vendor relations.

·        Regulatory Knowledge: Develop a thorough understanding of the regulatory environment: how it affects customers and their operations along with changes for VPPS to serve them effectively.

·        Further Training: As-assigned, eventually complete various manufacture’s lubricant training courses.

With our 60+ years of association with Chevron, Valley Pacific (VPPS) employs over 200 individuals including supply/distribution personnel, sales representatives, accounting/administrative specialists and convenience store staff. Its headquarters is in Stockton, with other offices in Bakersfield, Fresno, King City, Lodi, Porterville, Salinas, Santa Maria, Visalia, Eureka, Fortuna, Garberville and Cloverdale.

VPPS has hundreds of thousands of gallons of bulk lubricant storage: nearly all Chevron-branded. We operate service stations with convenience stores and supply over 100 Chevron, Texaco, "76", Valero, Spirit and Patriot branded dealers. We're also a member of the CFN cardlock network, operating over 30 cardlock fueling sites.
