Job Description

Job Summary:

The Therapy Technician performs various duties assisting in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with the established methods and procedures of the hospital.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform treatment procedures as appropriate, and assists with application of ice packs and heat assuring patient comfort.  Assist Staff Therapist with treatment procedures following direction in an accurate and precise manner. 
  • Assist patient in the transfers while assuring comfort.  Provide morning care, ADL’s, and general care routines as requested.
  • Participation in Dysphagia group.
  • Perform general care activities for patients in isolation following established procedures. 
  • Assume responsibility for patients’ schedules, during week and weekend,  and any changes that need to be communicated to the patients.
  • Assist with or transports patients, as necessary and assists with filling paperwork promptly.
  • Report and/or records any changes observed in condition or behavior.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment with well-stocked supplies and functioning equipment.
  • Familiar with duties and performs them accurately, recognizing their importance in relationship to patient care. 
  • Follow therapy care plan, observes established policy and procedures to assure proper treatment and care of patient.
  • Any and all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Ability to interact in a positive manner and to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, supervisor, and other hospital employees.

Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • CPR Certification
  • 1 year prior experience preferred

  • Ability to speak, hear, and read English
  • Ability to discern temperature, texture, size, and shape

Safe Environment:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Hospital specific and individual role in the fire/safety program including the following management plans:  safety, security, hazardous materials/waste, emergency preparedness, life safety, medical equipment and utility systems.
  • Participate in the Hospital policies and procedures relating to infection control for self, patients, and staff.
  • Observe proper body mechanics and safety precautions in all job duties.
  • Communicate information about incidents involving self, patients, staff and/or visitors to appropriate parties, using facility incident reporting systems as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates the safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation.

  • Attend and participate in all applicable training and development workshops including mandatory annual in-services/competencies.
  • Actively identify and participate in training, education and developmental activities to improve own knowledge and performance or the knowledge and performance of others.
