JOB OVERVIEW:

OPERATES AND MAINTAINS BOILERS AND OTHER SYSTEMS THAT PROVIDE AN ESTABLISHMENT WITH SUCH SERVICES AS HEAT, AIR-CONDITIONING (COOL, HUMIDIFY, DEHUMIDIFY, FILTER, AND CIRCULATE AIR), REFRIGERATION, STEAM OR HIGH-TEMPERATURE WATER OR ELECTRICITY IN THE CENTRAL UTILITY PLANT FOR A MEDICAL FACILITY.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • TENDS ONE OR MORE BOILERS TO PRODUCE STEAM OR HIGH-TEMPERATURE WATER FOR USE IN AN ESTABLISHMENT
  • FIRES BOILER, OBSERVES AND INTERPRETS READINGS ON GAUGES, METERS, AND CHARTS WHICH REGISTER VARIOUS ASPECTS OF BOILER OPERATION
  • ADJUSTS CONTROLS TO INSURE SAFE AND EFFICIENT BOILER OPERATION AND TO MEET DEMANDS FOR STEAM OR HIGH-TEMPERATURE WATER.
  • MAY ALSO DO ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING: MAINTAIN A LOG IN WHICH VARIOUS ASPECTS OF BOILER OPERATION ARE RECORDED; CLEAN, OIL, MAKE MINOR REPAIRS OR ASSIST IN REPAIR TO BOILER ROOM EQUIPMENT; AND FOLLOWING PRESCRIBED METHODS, TREAT BOILER WATER WITH CHEMICALS AND ANALYZE BOILER WATER FOR SUCH THINGS AS ACIDITY, CAUSTICITY, AND ALKALINITY.
  • OBSERVING AND INTERPRETING READINGS ON GAUGES, METERS AND CHARTS WHICH REGISTER VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE SYSTEM'S OPERATION,
  • ADJUSTING CONTROLS TO INSURE SAFE AND EFFICIENT OPERATION OF THE SYSTEM AND TO MEET DEMANDS FOR THE SERVICE PROVIDED
  • RECORDING IN LOGS VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE SYSTEM'S OPERATION, KEEPING THE ENGINES, MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT OF THE SYSTEM IN GOOD WORKING ORDER.
  • MAY DIRECT AND COORDINATE ACTIVITIES OF OTHER WORKERS IN PERFORMING TASKS DIRECTLY RELATED TO OPERATING AND MAINTAINING THE SYSTEM OR SYSTEMS.
  • REQUIRED TO BE SKILLED IN THE REPAIR OF ELECTRONIC CONTROL EQUIPMENT
  • WILL HAVE EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE IN TROUBLESHOOTING, REPAIR, PROGRAMMING, AND OTHER CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE AND MINOR MODIFICATIONS ON ALL SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT IN THEIR AREA.
  • WORKING EXPERIENCE IN TJC, OSHA, NFPA, EPA, & OTHER RELATED CODES & STANDARDS AND ALL EMPLOYEES MUST COMPLY WITH ALL APPLICABLE ORDINANCES, LAWS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS IMPOSED BY OTHER STATE AGENCIES, COURTS, OR CERTAIN LOCALITIES.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • STATIONARY ENGINEERS WHO OPERATE AND/OR PERFORM MAINTENANCE ON THE SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT IN THE CENTRAL UTILITY PLANT ARE LICENSED AND HAVE RECEIVED ADEQUATE TRAINING PRIOR TO OPERATING OR MAINTAINING THE SYSTEMS/EQUIPMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH AR 420-1, PARAGRAPH 23-8 UTILITY PLANT OPERATORS, SUBPARAGRAPH A.
  • SHALL BE LICENSED/CERTIFIED BY THE APPROPRIATE STATE FOR HIS/HER SPECIFIC TRADE. A COPY OF THE STATE/FEDERAL LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS WILL BE PROVIDED
  • ANY PERSONNEL PERFORMING WORK ON ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS SHALL BE QUALIFIED/CERTIFIED IN HOSPITAL EMERGENCY POWER SYSTEMS AS DEFINED BY NFPA 70, 70B AND 70E.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • TWO YEAR CERTIFICATE FROM COLLEGE OR TECHNICAL SCHOOL; OR THREE TO SIX MONTHS RELATED EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE.
  • WILL BE SUFFICIENTLY EDUCATED, TRAINED, AND EXPERIENCED WITH A MINIMUM OF THREE (3) YEARS' EXPERIENCE AS A STATIONARY ENGINEER IN HEALTHCARE FACILITIES TO PROVIDE PROFICIENT O&M SERVICES AND MAINTAIN THE FACILITIES IAW VALIANT AND GOVERNMENT STANDARDS.

  • TAKE REASONABLE CARE FOR THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF YOURSELF AND OTHER PERSONS WHO MAY BE AFFECTED BY YOUR ACTIONS OR OMISSIONS.
  • OBSERVE AND COMPLY WITH COMPANY'S HEALTH, SAFETY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES AT ALL TIMES.
  • CONFORM TO ALL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN BY THOSE WITH A HIGHER RESPONSIBILITY FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY.
  • REPORT ALL HAZARDS, POTENTIAL HAZARDS OR DANGEROUS SITUATIONS, INCLUDING DAMAGED OR MISLAID PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT TO YOUR SUPERVISOR OR SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE.
  • REPORT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS, ANYTHING THAT RESULTS IN A CHANGE TO THE ENVIRONMENT AS A RESULT OF VALIANT'S ACTIVITIES, PRODUCTS OR SERVICES.
  • PARTICIPATE IN THE ACHIEVEMENT OF VALIANT'S QHSE OBJECTIVES AND TARGETS, BOTH THOSE AT DEPARTMENTAL AND COMPANY LEVEL.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • THE PHYSICAL DEMANDS DESCRIBED HERE ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THOSE THAT MUST BE MET BY AN EMPLOYEE TO SUCCESSFULLY PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS JOB. WHILE PERFORMING THE DUTIES OF THIS JOB, THE EMPLOYEE IS REGULARLY REQUIRED TO STAND; WALK; USE HANDS TO FINGER, HANDLE, OR FEEL; REACH WITH HANDS AND ARMS; CLIMB OR BALANCE; STOOP, KNEEL, CROUCH, OR CRAWL; AND TALK OR HEAR. THE EMPLOYEE MUST OCCASIONALLY LIFT AND/OR MOVE UP TO 50 POUNDS.

  • ALL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS MUST COMPLETE BACKGROUND CHECKS AND FACILITY RELATED TRAINING
  • WILL BE REQUIRED TO POSSESS VALID STATE AND FACILITY LICENSES TO OPERATE A VEHICLE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THEIR DUTIES
  • SHIFTS: SHIFT 1 -- 0730-1600, SHIFT 2 -- 1600-2400, SHIFT 3 -- 2400-0800
