Germantown, MD
  • Expired: April 07, 2022. Applications are no longer accepted.

*The Company*   Vaccitech is a fast-growing biotech company. At only five years old we already have a development portfolio of six products, a partnered product that is in commercial production that has seen more than 3 billion doses administered worldwide and an IPO behind us. We are a publicly-listed clinical stage biopharmaceutical company that spun out of the University of Oxford’s Jenner Institute.

We discover and develop immunotherapeutic products and vaccines for the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases and cancer. Our achievements include co-inventing and jointly developing our COVID-19 vaccine candidate VTP-900, now Vaxzevria, which we assigned to Oxford University Innovation to facilitate the licensing of those rights to AstraZeneca. We clinical studies to explore treatments for patients with HBV and HPV infections and are developing rapid and scalable manufacturing processes for our platforms.   In December 2021 Vaccitech acquired Avidea Technologies with exciting product candidates for oncology and autoimmunity based on the innovative SNAPvax platform, a novel nanoparticle-based vaccine delivery platform for the induction of adaptive immune responses and immunomodulation.

This gives us US operational presence in Maryland, complements Vaccitech’s established capabilities, and reinforces our position as a fast-growing global leader in immunotherapies and vaccines. We conduct research globally and have ambitious plans in the UK and US, where we will continue to grow our teams over the coming months and years. North American roles will begin in our Baltimore facility and transition to Germantown following the completion of our expanded laboratory suite in early 2023.   *The Role*   This position will be responsible for conducting immunological assays to support the preclinical development of immunotherapies as part of a multi-disciplinary team of chemists, immunologists, and engineers.

The primary focus will be on harnessing T cells for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases. The role will be primarily laboratory-based, but there will be opportunities for planning, presentation, and strategy with acquired experience.   The successful candidate will contribute to the design of research studies in vitro and in vivo to identify lead formulations for advancement to clinical trials. This will include interfacing with the Chemistry team to set priorities for synthesis and testing of candidate immunotherapies.

You will perform preclinical studies to include coordinating work at CROs, tissue processing, flow cytometry, immunoassays and data acquisition. You will also analyse acquired data, synthesize findings, and recommend next steps in regular written and oral presentations.   *Experience and Qualifications*   The successful candidate will have a BS or MS degree in a life science discipline and have a minimum of two years’ experience conducting immunological assays, preferably including the preparation of immune cells from animal or human tissues and cell cultures, cell culture and ELISAs. Flow cytometry experience (staining, collection, and analysis) is essential.

The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work within a team of scientists and collaborators to help meet research goals together.   *What we can offer*   Vaccitech is a great place to work. We encourage an entirely flat structure with an open-door policy to the senior leadership team. Our employees agree the culture and working environment is one of the best things about our business.

As part of a small high growth business, you will get the opportunity to be involved in many different areas and our rapid growth trajectory means you will have the opportunity to grow with us. We offer employer funded health, dental and vision insurance; a 401k retirement plan; career development opportunities, paid time off (PTO) and paid parental leave. Salary will be commensurate with experience.   Please use your cover letter to highlight prior immunology lab experience. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis and employment can begin as soon as possible.   *Notice to Recruiters*   Vaccitech’s internal Talent Acquisition leads recruitment and employment for Vaccitech.
