Overview
 

VTG is seeking a Senior Cyber Incident Response Operations Specialist to support the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Cyber Engineering and Digital Transformation Directorate (SEA 03) at the Washington Navy Yard, DC.  The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cybersecurity incident response, with a focus on managing and mitigating cyber threats in real-time. This role requires a strategic thinker who can lead and coordinate incident response efforts, as well as collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure timely resolution of cyber incidents.  Position will be hybrid at the Washington DC Navy Yard.


What will you do?
 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

Drive cyber Incident Response (IR) process/procedure maturity.
• Lead and coordinate cyber IR activities, including detection, analysis, containment, eradication, and recovery.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in cyber IR, providing guidance and support to junior team members and stakeholders.
• Develop and implement IR playbooks, procedures, and best practices to enhance the organization’s overall security posture.
• Conduct post-incident reviews and analysis to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including security operations, threat intelligence, and IT infrastructure, to ensure alignment and coordination of IR efforts.
• Stay current with emerging cyber threats and industry best practices to continuously improve IR capabilities.
• Participate in tabletop exercises and simulated cyber attack scenarios to test and validate IR plans.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for external stakeholders, including clients, partners, and law enforcement, during cyber security incidents.


Do you have what it takes?
 

Required skills:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or related field with 10 years of experience, with a focus on IR and security operations. OR Master’s degree in computer science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or related field with 6 years of experience, with a focus on IR and security operations.
  • Strong technical proficiency in network security, malware analysis, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and log analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating cyber IR activities in complex, enterprise environments.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as GCIP, CISSP, CISM, GCFA, or GCIH.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • US citizenship
  • Active Secret security clearance and Top Secret security clearance eligible

Preferred Skills:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge utilizing native security and logging tools (M365, Azure, AWS, GCP) and planning for centralized log aggregation utilizing a variety of methods.
  • Expertise in planning, implementation and usage of security incident and event management tools.
  • Strong technical understanding of log and monitoring management systems, security event monitoring systems, network-based and host-based intrusion detection systems, security system technologies, malware detection and enterprise-level antivirus solutions/systems, and encryption standards.
  • Experience working on DODIN / Navy information systems.
