The Communications Specialist is responsible for planning, developing and implementing organizational communication, external communication, and branded marketing content and materials to support employee, member, and community impact strategies in a wide range of mediums to promote VSECU, increase brand awareness.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for communication planning and execution with extensive writing, message development, storytelling, and marketing and collateral development to attract, retain and optimize internal and external relationships and provide education about VSECU brand, products, services, and impact.
Draft and manage content for internal communications, branding programs and staff announcements.
Support the production of engaging, optimized digital and social content, including video.
Play a key support role in social media listening, response management and crisis communication.
Contribute to, support and evaluate the results of communication campaigns with the marketing team.
Support public relations and activities including writing of press releases, opinion pieces, byline articles, keynote programs, member outreach, educational seminars, community giving and other strategic community impact and engagement activities.
Assist with preparing media kits and lead effective storytelling to amplify VSECU’s mission, vision, and purpose.
Assist in research and content development for the website, infographics, blogs, emails and newsletters to support communications and content marketing needs.
Engage in opinion writing and thought leadership on a regular basis with the ability to demonstrate adherence to VSECU brand voice.
Research, author and share engagement stories (internal and external) through traditional, digital and social channels that highlight the VSECU mission, vision, and values.
Work with and support key internal role-players to brainstorm content ideas that are in line with organizational and departmental objectives in support of various brand initiatives.
Assist with hosting events and programs such as mixers, educational seminars and open houses when pertinent.
Provide assistance and collaborate on distribution of VSECU Community Contributions.
Provide internal support for activities, events, projects and programs, campaigns, and other marketing initiatives.
Collaborate and work with vendors, media representatives, community members, credit union associates as needed on various stages of project and event tasks.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to be detail orientated, multi-tasked, self-motivated and able to work independently on broad assignments.
Must be a confident and articulate communicator.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree related to marketing, journalism or public relations, or a related field with at least three years experience in a position requiring public or community relations or marketing, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
Excellent writing skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups and to represent the VSECU professionally.
Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office products.
Familiarity with cooperatives, credit unions, credit union products and operations a plus.
Ability to understand, develop and implement business development initiatives.
VSECU’s normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.
