Seeking a full-time psychologist to provide clinical services, research, teaching/supervision, and program development to children and adolescents with obesity and eating disorders. This position involves effort devoted to the provision of clinical services and research, with the specific effort allocation dependent on candidate qualifications and funding support. As such, psychologist must have training as scientist-practitioners. As a member of the Healthy Lifestyles team, the psychologist will evaluate and provide outpatient clinical services to patients with eating and weight disorders in this tertiary care center. Services will include diagnostic interviews, individual and family psychotherapy, and assessments, including pre-bariatric surgery psychological assessments and functioning as a member of the interdisciplinary weight management and endocrine teams. Although patients with all endocrine disorders are seen at this center (e.g., diabetes, transgender), this position has a particular emphasis on obesity and eating disorders, and will lead efforts to grow this interdisciplinary clinical and research program.


The psychologist will collaborate with the other members of the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, dieticians, and psychiatrists, both clinically and in a research capacity to advance the care of children with eating and weight disorders. Children?s Hospital of Richmond includes other psychologists and therapists integrated into pediatric subspecialty areas. Psychologists have a close and supportive working relationship with hospital-based physician specialists and community pediatricians.
The faculty shares a common commitment to serving and protecting the well-being of the state?s children as well as providing a quality education to trainees. There are opportunities for teaching and supervision of psychology trainees as well as medical students and pediatric residents and fellows. Research and other scholarly activity will be encouraged, and opportunities exist for collaborative research with established researchers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in the area of Endocrinology/Psychology.
  • Faculty member will provide guidance and mentorship to Residents and Chief Residents in the area
    of Endocrinology/Psychology.
  • Faculty member will have experience in securing revenue through grants and contracts and will serve as a research mentor to other members of the division and the department of Pediatrics.
  • Faculty member will serve on departmental or School of Medicine level committees when appropriate, as well as professional through journal review, conference presentations, etc.
  • Faculty member will serve as a Psychologist in the Division of Endocrinology.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED

Ph.D. in Clinical or Counseling from an APA- accredited doctoral program

  • Experience with clinical care of patients ages birth to 21
  • Experience with pediatric weight management
  • Experience with education of house-staff, medical students, and others
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.


PREFERRED

  • Sub-board and or additional graduate degree
  • Experience with advocacy at local, state, and national level
  • Success in generating revenue (grants/contracts)
  • Additional requirements for the position include: Ph.D. in Clinical or Counseling from an APA-accredited doctoral program and completion of a 1 year postdoctoral fellowship (or equivalent) in a related field, and be licensed or license-eligible to practice psychology in Virginia.

EXPERIENCE (outside of doctoral training)

  • Both adult and pediatric weight management and eating disorder research and treatment preferred.
  • Position will include a faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, within the Department of Pediatrics at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is a must.
