We are a technology, sustainability and energy engineering consulting firm that focuses on a system thinking approach for high-performance buildings working with building owners, architects, contractors and design engineers to help owners comply with the local laws and deeper energy retrofit implementations. The Smart Buildings and Clean Energy Engineering Manager will develop and trouble-shoot 3D models of new construction and existing buildings using energy simulation tools such as AECOsim (Bentley)/ eQuest/ EnergyPlus / AutoCAD, to determine energy performance for ENERGY STAR certification, Enterprise Green Communities, LEED EAp2 and EAc1, NYSERDA, state and federal incentive programs, New York City Energy Conservation code compliance, and owner/developer specific targets to support the Principal and Sr. Sustainability Program Development Manager in their effort to ensure high performance buildings. These actions follow all Company policies and procedures and in accordance with all applicable Fair Housing/Human Rights statutes, and all Municipal and Local Laws. As a start-up firm, candidate will be expected to collaborate with internal and external team, corporate partners and vendors, the candidate will be responsible for internal business development, assisting in the construction of technical/energy efficiency model and service development business documentation including energy market analysis. To apply, please send a cover letter and resume to email@example.com as soon as possible The Smart Buildings and Clean Energy Engineering Key Responsibilities: • Develop and document necessary inputs to reduce and/or simplify complex systems in order to accurately model with minimum supervision. • Create a building model in a 3D computer modeling program such as AECOsim, eQuest, EnergyPlus or AutoCAD by reading and interpreting architectural building drawings, technical specifications, and equipment cut sheets and include into model. • Evaluate energy performance of the target buildings, comparing energy performance to industry benchmarks via Energy Star and CBECC, and identifying energy conservation measures and running parametric analyses in an iterative fashion to optimize the building. • Interpret results to determine if the modeled systems are operating as designed. • Prepare LEED documentation related to ASHRAE 90.1 compliance. • Create custom equipment curves with relevant manufacturer data. • Create and interpret 2-D thermal analysis via Therm software to predict fenestration assembly performance for new and existing buildings. • Generate consecutive models at each design phase and assist Sr. Sustainability Program Development Manager with cost-benefit analysis. • Write reports communicating energy analysis findings, make design recommendations for improving energy performance and meeting energy performance targets for buildings. • Assist Sr. Sustainability Program Development Manager in completing associated LEED, ENEGRY STAR, EGC certification and incentives’ related documentation. • Attend project meeting and participate actively in integrated design team meetings with MEP, Architects, GC and Vendors. • Prepare energy model results using USL templates and industry best practices to provide accurate results to clients. • Provide advice and support to clients on energy-related decision making and if required, host training sessions with building/ facilities managers. • Assist Sr. Sustainability Program Development Manager with ROI impact analysis and feasibility studies to achieve sustainable and equitable financial goals for clients. • Develops scope of work for building modeling for new construction and existing building projects, to assist the Principal and Sr. Sustainability Program Development Manager in conducting bids. Minimum REQUIRED Qualifications: • B.S. Engineering / Sustainable Design / Architecture or a related Engineering field. • Documented three years’ energy efficiency modeling experience in Multifamily or Commercial buildings’ projects in NY State. • Must have prior experience with EnergyPlus. • Working knowledge of any of the following: AECOsim, eQUEST, Trane Trace 700, IES Virtual Environment, Energy Pro, EnergyPlus or CBECC-COM • Experience with modeling advanced HVAC systems such as chilled beams, radiant system and UFAD is a plus. Required Key knowledge areas / experience: Building Energy Modeling, at least 3 years of Building Energy Modeling (Multifamily / Commercial buildings), Writing Reports and Specification Writing, Training, Energy Analysis, 3D computer modeling program experience (i.e AECOsim, eQUEST, Trane Trace 700, IES Virtual Environment, Energy Pro, EnergyPlus or CBECC-COM) • Basic understanding of EnergyPlus. • Strong employment record exhibiting progressive achievement of skills and expertise. • Hands on knowledge of mechanical systems, HVACs, and construction operations as well as technical expertise of operational parameters. • Equipment proficiencies: electrical multi-meters, sound meters, hydronic flow meters, fiber optic testing equipment, thermal imaging, velocity and cfm meters and testing equipment. • Strong working knowledge and ability to utilize computers with software packages such as Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, AutoCad/ AECOsim/ EnergyPlus. • Strong systems thinking and analytical capabilities with solid understanding of advanced physics as it relates to energy efficiency modeling, renewable energy generation and battery storage related ROI calculations. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Highly motivated and organized. • Ability to work with minimum supervision and meet tight delivery deadlines while contributing extra hours when necessary. • Ability to plan, organize, monitor the work and activities of self-according to priorities, established schedules and deadlines. • Ability to work in a highly entrepreneurial environment with minimal structure. • Strong desire to understand the latest technologies in energy management and building technologies. • Associated degree or vocational technical training required. • 3-5 Years of HVAC controls and sensor experience. Education may be substituted for experience. • Roof Top Units/Air Handling Units , Chillers and Boiler system plant experience • Experience in Building Automation systems (Schneider, Johnson Controls, IBM, Siemens Honeywell • BACNet IP, LONworks, JACE • TCP/IP data networks and building controls network • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Office Software required. • Good verbal and written communication skills. This position is based in the NYC office but will require local travel to sites and US travel for training. Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience • Bachelors' degree in mechanical, electrical or systems engineering RQUIRED • Master’s Degree preferred. • 3-5 years engineering or installation experience in systems / controls / mechanical / electrical or other related experience preferred. • Proficiency in programming
