Interior Design Consultant

Urban Living is currently seeking a full-time Design Consultant to join the Design Team in the Home Sales Studio in our Houston office. Our goal is to identify a candidate who possesses the talent, drive, skill, ability and enthusiasm to become a productive member of Urban Living. You must submit a portfolio to be considered for this position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with developers, builders, and sales team to design and implement design packages for new home developments as well as sell concept design packages for new home developments.
  • Consultant will work with home-buyers in the selection process of everything from colors, textures, finishes, and styles to selection of all options including cabinets, flooring, counter-tops, appliances, window treatments, and more
  • Organize and maintain the design sales studio
  • Meet with vendors as needed to maximize revenue opportunities on new home design selections.
  • Various design related tasks as outlined by delegated by management
  • Provide Interior and Exterior Design Specification packages for Developers – typically one or two options within a 2-week turnaround period
  • If exterior rendering is required, make sure that we receive renderings in a timely manner. It will take approximately 2-3-week maximum turnaround time from preliminary stages to final product for client approval
  • Create binders for all developments with final selections, which includes Specification and Image Reports
  • Keep a record of signed contracts, change orders and revisions on projects. Coordinate with Accounting on payments when necessary
  • Prepare and lay out samples for Developer meetings per specification packages
  • Organize and maintain both Material Samples and Digital Samples Library
    • Material Samples
      • Place samples into bins by Development Name and create a color-coded labeling system to keep track of samples coming in and out of the showroom
      • Order/pick up samples for finishes and meet with vendors to ensure samples and catalogs in the library are up-to-date for each category
        • Plumbing Fixtures
        • Lighting
        • Stone
        • Flooring/Wall Tile
      • Keep an updated vendor list and corresponding material/fixtures price lists for project references
    • Digital Samples
      • Keep an image library of all samples used in digital format. Images will be uploaded to specification software and must be accessible for use on all current and future projects
  • Review/update images for each development on the Urban Living Website – coordinate with Media Team on updated Exterior and Interior images and finishes

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Interior Design or concurrent experience in a home-building related industry, a plus
  • Previous internship with an architectural or interior design firm, preferred
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in team environment
  • Must have excellent presentation, communication and customer service skills are a MUST
  • Additionally, it's a must to have excellent presentation skills, outstanding inter-personal skills, strong work ethic, exceptional listening skills and high degree of professionalism, honesty and integrity
  • Awareness of current design trends in a variety of styles ranging from traditional to contemporary
  • Must have ability to read and understand architectural and structural blueprints
  • Must be proactive with the ability to multi-task and follow through with projects containing high level of detail
  • Willing to maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and communicating with other departments
  • Professional appearance and the ability to interact in a professional manner with a variety of customers required
  • Familiarity with Microsoft applications, including Windows, Excel, and Word
