The researcher assistant will support aerosols and air quality research using satellite, surface, and model outputs. This includes big data analysis, interpretation, and visualization. Other tasks include developing machine learning algorithm and statistical model to estimate surface air quality using satellite observations, developing calibration models for low-cost air quality sensors, and downscaling of global air quality forecast at local and regional scales. The researcher will also work on integrating large volume of air quality data sets coming from multiple sources into easy-to-use database suitable for web applications and research. Researcher will make time to time presentations to the team and collaborators and support writing technical documents and peer reviewed articles.

Required Qualifications: 


Education:

Graduate or undergraduate degree in earth sciences, atmospheric sciences, computer sciences or a related field.

Experience: 

  • 0 - 2 years of research experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  

  • Experience in using atmospheric observations (aerosols, flux, fires) from satellite, and surface (PM2.5).
  • Two or more years’ programming experience in Python in various operating environment.
  • Knowledge of structured programming languages and high-performance computing.
  • Knowledge of software packages for data processing and visualization.
  • Experience with HDF, NetCDF, and other remote sensing data formats.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to independently work through situational issues and use problem solving skills to achieve desired project outcome.

Working Conditions: 

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc. Keyboarding for large time spans each day will be a significant part of this position. This is largely a sedentary role.

Travel:  

0-1 per year.
