JOB TITLE: Senior Systems Administrator

REPORTS TO: IT Infrastructure & Security Manager

INTRODUCTION

Under the supervision of the IT Infrastructure & Security Manager, the Senior Systems Administrator maintains computing environment by identifying network requirements, installing upgrades, and monitoring network performance. The Senior Systems Administrator manages Unity Health Care's servers, desktop and mobile equipment, and telecommunications network. The incumbent ensures that email and data storage networks work properly. The Senior Systems Administrator designs and analyzes network models. The incumbent participates in decisions about purchasing hardware or software to upgrade the network. The Senior Systems Administrator provides technical support to computer users.

MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Deploys physical and virtual servers in a Windows environment.
  • Maintains infrastructure servers such as print, file, application, document management, etc.
  • Maintains existing Hyper-V and VMWare environment and troubleshoots all VM related issues.
  • Deploys applications to physical and virtual servers.
  • Works extensively with Office 365 environment to manage email, Sharepoint, and other Office 365 applications.
  • Assists in maintaining cloud applications with knowledge of cloud computing principles and best practices.
  • Maintains data integrity by performing backups using Arcserve or other similar backup software.
  • Assists in designing, managing and expanding storage infrastructure and archiving and backup systems.
  • Maintains network connectivity by troubleshooting Meraki wireless network equipment.
  • Secures network by developing network access, monitoring, controlling, and evaluating and maintaining documentation.
  • Interacts with vendors to provide
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Support of helpdesk for appropriate level requests.
  • Monitors releases of system updates and updates system.
  • Plans, schedules, and tracks project timelines and milestones and deliverables using the appropriate tools.
  • Estimates the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals and manage the resources.
  • Provides IT Manager and Information Systems with updates on the status of on- going plans for projects.
  • Identifies and communicates operational challenges, risks, and issues to the IT Manager and Unity Health Care leadership as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Two years of experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Industry Recognized Certifications preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Experience with Microsoft server 2012/2016/2019 and desktop operating system Windows 10.
  • Strong server hardware troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Hyper-V and VMWare.
  • Strong Office 365 skills.
  • Experience with cloud computing tools and principles.
  • Ability to install and administer computer hardware, software, and networks.
  • Possess understanding of firewalls, network routing, VPN communications and VoIP communications.
  • Ability to plan and schedule work priorities to meet deadlines and emergencies.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of business users and management.
  • Good customer service skills including interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide technical support to end users.
  • Works well alone and in a team environment.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The position reports to the IT Infrastructure & Security Manager.

GUIDELINES

The position abides by all rules and regulations set forth by applicable licensing and regulatory bodies, as well as UHC policies and procedures.

PERSONAL CONTACTS

The position requires contact with staff at all levels throughout the organization. There are also external organization relationships that may be a part of the work of the incumbent.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Considerable manual dexterity with tools and ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Requires lifting of computer equipment, supplies, and materials from time to time.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS

Although the position is assigned a specific shift, this position may be assigned alternate shifts to address the needs of Unity Health Care. This position is a technical and mobile appointment requiring IT knowledge. Travel to Unity Health Care sites will be required to install and maintain workstations. There is sometimes a requirement to work evenings or weekends in order provide uninterrupted services to health centers.

RISKS

The position involves everyday risk and discomforts, which require normal safety precautions typical of such placesas offices, meetings, training rooms, and other UHC health Care Sites. The work area is adequately lit, heated, and ventilated. All medical services shall be provided according to medically accepted community standards of care. The employee shall provide evidence of a recent (within the past twelve (12) months) health assessment that includes a PPD and/or chest x-ray results.
