Job Summary:

This position develops plans and strategies in the creation of overall events both community-wide and affinity group focused. These range from large-scale fundraising events for thousands of attendees, to intimate briefings and cultivation events for small groups. Responsible for strategy and execution of marketing efforts to drive sponsorships including tracking of sponsorship dollars to event-specific budgets and ensuring appropriate company recognition.

The annual salary range is $71,058 – $72,637 DOE. This position is open until filled.

Essential Duties:

  • Manages the development and implementation of fundraising and organizational special events for United Way of King County, various major donor cultivation and recognition events, and ad hoc events that capitalize on United Way’s community relationships.
  • Selects and procures sites for events and follows through on all site-specific requirements and details.
  • Works closely with Major Gifts team to strategize and execute donor-specific events.
  • Promotes events and works to ensure that they support the overall communication strategy of the organization.
  • Conceives, markets and monitors sponsorships for the organization, both event and non-event related.
  • Creates sponsorship packages for prospective companies.
  • Coordinates, monitors, and tracks sponsorships, both event and non-event related.
  • Tracks sponsorship dollars to event-specific budgets and ensures appropriate company recognition.
  • Negotiates with vendors in developing contracts for all aspects of support: decoration, music, sound production, talent and giveaways.
  • Communicates and negotiates directly with volunteer leadership including campaign chairperson(s), donor host(s), and/or deputies to coordinate events, and acts as a trusted liaison from United Way of King County.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:


This position does not supervise any staff members. Occasionally oversees summer interns and part time temporary help during peak event periods.

  • Demonstrated understanding of social and racial justice and equity, with a proven commitment to apply racial and economic justice lenses in both personal and workplace contexts.
  • Lived experience and/or demonstrated professional skills working within a diverse work environment.
  • Proven excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven strong strategic and organizational skills.
  • Proven project and events management skills with the ability to direct projects and people simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated time management skills including ability to manage multiple events in an efficient and resourceful manner.
  • Proven team player and collaborator.
  • Demonstrated high level of accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Proven strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to communicate United Way’s brand value.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field. Must have at least four years’ experience in marketing, sponsorship, and event planning. Previous volunteer management experience strongly preferred. Awareness of latest marketing/sponsorship trends and best practices helpful.

Job Conditions:


The position works under frequent time requirements/constraints and performs extensive close work using a computer. Work requires a flexible work schedule and may require shift extensions or weekend work to meet specific work objectives. United Way of King County operates a hybrid workplace with most employees working schedules that combine remote and on-site components. A record of full COVID-19 vaccination is required for this role.
