Job Description

SUMMARY

Sells stainless steel and high temperature alloys. Achieved by making personal calls, cold calls, and marketing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Sales Functions

Conducts sales campaigns as jointly developed by sales and marketing.

Travels throughout assigned territories to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders and new business.

Displays product, using samples or catalog.

Presents prices, credit terms, and sales contracts for orders obtained.

Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of own firm's production and delivery schedules.

Prepares reports of business transactions and keeps expense accounts.

Works with inside sales representatives regarding account activities and new requirements.

Establish new accounts and maintain current customer base in identified territories with the inside reps.

Works with inside sales reps. regarding account activities and new customer and potential prospects for sales visits.

Confer or consult with department heads to plan campaigns and growth strategy.

Monitor customer preferences to determine focus of sales efforts.

Represent company at trade association meetings to promote products with the Marketing department.

Understand and demonstrate all areas of inside sales working procedures and ability to work in all areas properly.

Develop territory plan on new and current customer base with territory manager

Attends all sales meetings and trade shows as directed by Director of Sales

Back up Inside Sales Reps. as needed.

Keep expenses within budget.

Responsible for developing new business

Complete knowledge of competition by region and customer.

Answer incoming calls in a timely manner.

Initiate and maintain contact with customers via telephone, e-mail, fax and in person.

Initiate cold calls, take inquiries, make follow up / courtesy calls.

Develop and respond to an inquiry in a timely fashion.

Handle difficult situations with customers and help to resolve in a professional manner.

Develop prospects via the Internet, telephone, and literature (mailings).

Resolve claim disputes with customers in a positive manner using our current QIR procedure.

Ability to quote and price orders.

Ability to negotiate inquiries/orders with customers.

Ability to develop personal relationships by telephone.

Ability to respond to all customer requests promptly, i.e. e-mail quotes, faxing quotes and test reports.

Ability to prioritize duties and customers.

Ability to work effectively and efficiently

Ability to check other sales team member's orders for accuracy and make corrections as required.

Possess good organizational skills for accounts and account information.

Maintain a quote file.

Willingness to do the mundane filing, faxing.

Ability to stay organized and detailed.

Submit competitive information and / or other marketing knowledge.

Maintain and awareness of

competitor’s

products, services, and pricing methods.

Good communication skills with internal and external customers.

Ability to layout a trip in a time efficient manner for outside calls.

Develop shipping information for

customer, i.e.

P.O. status.

Develop and respond to customer quotations.

Expedite orders, i.e. check order status.

Professional appearance.

Positive attitude.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees and oversees staff, possibly at multiple locations. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Computer Functions

Enters new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database.

Document all sales calls in S

alesLogix

and update daily.

Prepare reports as needed for territory manager.

Prepare weekly

, monthly calendar in SalesLogix

for territory and coordinates with territory manager.

Purchasing

Develops and maintains relationships with purchasing contacts.

Knowledge of vendors and ability to buy out.

Product Knowledge

Complete product knowledge of our line

Account awareness and knowledge of the customers' products, capabilities, and competition (both our and theirs).

Product knowledge and technical skills regarding our stock alloys.

Ability to select the most efficient inventory item for shearing, slitting, and edging.

Ability to select the most efficient inventory for stock orders using the

Stratix

system.

Develop test report

information

for customers using

Stratix

system.

Interdepartmental

Ability to check inventory as needed.

Provide shipment information on an order, i.e. order status

Develop and complete new account information, which requires Sales Logix and AS400 input.

Interacting with Production Planning Department on order requests.

Interacting with Quality Department regarding customer specific requirements, QIR's, and conditions of metal in warehouse.

Completion of credit information for new accounts.

Develop and apply inventory "used" line to all sales orders, assign inventory tag.

Check credit references, over due payments and credit held orders.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; with four to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
