POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY
The Therapist is responsible for coordinating Mental health care services for American Indian clients in the Los Angeles County. Provides assessment and counseling/therapy to eligible children, youth, and adults as a member of a treatment team. The Therapist identifies social needs and coordinates linkage of client with one-to-one therapeutic counseling regarding mental health or substance abuse issues. The Therapist will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team and the majority of services are provided in the field.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Provide intake and initial assessment of children and adolescents referred to Center.
· Provide individual/family in-home, field based counseling services and/or office-based treatment to children, youth and adults with a range of psychological, emotional, and behavioral problems.
· Needs a valid driver’s license and vehicle, as the majority of visits will be field based, so there can be a lot of driving.
· Assess family dynamics and home environment and prepares reports as needed/required.
· Identify and work with Case Coordinator to obtain resources for the client to sustain the client’s involvement in Center programs/treatment.
· Provide group treatment, parent support groups, and/or parenting classes as needed/required.
· Provide 24-hour availability and crisis intervention as needed/required.
· Evening and Weekend work may be required depending on the needs of the clients.
· Provide aftercare follow-up and support/assistance to client’s completing Center programs/treatment.
· Participate in case planning with other center clinicians, consulting specialists, and representatives from schools, DCFS, and other jurisdictions as required/needed.
· Participate in Outpatient Staff meetings, Clinical Case Conferences, and other meetings as appropriate/assigned.
· Participate in and conduct in-service training to Center staff and others as assigned.
· Maintain client charts in a responsible manner and meet all paperwork deadlines as required by DCFS, DMH and agency policy (e.g. complete case notes and discharge notes on timely basis, etc.).
· All paperwork should be completed and submitted to supervisor for review as required. Monday through Wednesday’s paperwork is due by 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. Paperwork for Thursday and Friday is due by 9:00 a.m. the following Wednesday.
· Productivity – 70% of hours worked each week are billable productivity. For a 40 hour work week, billable productivity is 28 hours.
· Comply with agency guidelines, policies, and procedures.
· Arrange work schedule to benefit the Center program and clients with the approval of Clinical Supervisor/Program Director.
· Keep Program Director well-informed regarding activities, pending issues and potential problems.
MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS
Experience & Qualifications:
· Minimum one-year clinical experience with children and families.
· Some (may need to define this more quantitatively) experience providing home-based/community-based counseling services.
· Minimum one-year clinical experience working with multiple-problem families (e.g. unemployment, poverty, substance abuse, homelessness, etc.).
· MA in clinical psychology, MSW or Ph.D./Psy.D. in psychology from an accredited graduate program.
· California license or license-eligible preferred.
Patient Care and Customer Service:
· Maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information adhering to HIPAA, professional codes of conduct, State of CA regulations, Privacy Act, and UAII policies and procedures.
· Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing.
· Proficient in English Language
· Communicate and deal effectively with people in a professional and courteous manner.
· Knowledge of MS Office, IPad
· Available and willing to travel as needed.
· Available to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
· Maintains personal responsibility for maintaining a valid licensure and for ensuring timely completion of appropriate Continuing Education Units for renewal of license.

There are prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well as driving or riding in transport vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with patients, vendors, and staff.
There are a number of deadlines associated with this position. The employee must also multi-task and interact with a wider variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues.
