Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Sr. Accountant/Controller will be an integral part of the agile accounting operation for a growing and innovative enterprise with separate businesses serving the travel, hospitality, and retail sectors. The ideal candidate will have a passion for understanding the story behind the numbers so he/she can provide insightful information to leaders throughout the organization. By combining a strong technical knowledge of the accounting trade with a keen use and understanding of financial technologies, this individual will work closely with the VP of Finance to find and launch new efficiencies and strategies in guiding the accounting team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee regular accounting processes such as A/P, A/R, Payroll, and journal entries plus monthly closure accounts for 4 separate businesses
  • Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information
  • Maintain and update chart of accounts for multiple companies to optimize financial reporting
  • Guide accounting staff by coordinating activities and answering questions
  • Cross train team to create redundancy so key tasks can be accomplished with limited staff
  • Reconcile bank statements and bookkeeping ledgers and clear any discrepancies in the balances by researching and analyzing the account information
  • Generate company financial reports and distribute to stakeholders
  • Perform trend analysis and communicate key findings to drive better future outcomes
  • Use MS Excel to create various models and forecasts supporting business needs
  • File and remit sales taxes, other taxes, and other financial obligations
  • Assist in developing budgetary plans for different business units
  • Oversee enterprise credit card program including proper coding into general ledger of all expenses
  • Administer 401K plan including working with third party auditor on annual plan audit
  • Administer company insurances including work comp, general liability, etc.
  • Work with team to assess and select company benefit products to be offered in the cafeteria plan
  • Comply with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions
  • Continue education and training to maintain mastery of the field

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting (more experience preferred)
  • Excellent understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proficiency using enterprise accounting software (Microsoft GP preferred)
  • Proficiency using MS Excel spreadsheets and pivot tables
  • Experience using MS Excel to create models and forecasts
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills
