This position supports our Communications Systems Business Division and is located in Virginia Beach, VA.

Job Summary:

  • This position is responsible for supporting both engineering and manufacturing in all phases of negotiating and purchasing materials, equipment, supplies and services from vendors and subcontractors.

  • Evaluates vendor quotes against requirements to determine most desirable / best value suppliers.

  • Apply knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures for sourcing and purchasing of materials within the framework of an ISO-9001 quality system.

  • The work is performed in a fast-paced environment that requires a self-starter who is comfortable with multi-tasking, short deadlines, frequent changes, and an advanced ability to analyze and problem solve.

Essential Functions:

  • Key contributor in Sales & Operational Planning (S&OP) process

  • Generate and maintain purchase orders and other required documentation in support of manufacturing and R&D activities.

  • Reports unresolved material needs (shortages) and supply chain issues to the appropriate production and manufacturing personnel and work to resolve them.

  • Perform all phases of material sourcing including vendor identification/selection/qualification and material planning and analysis.

  • Manage supplier scorecard process and investigate and recommend to management 2nd source vendor opportunities for all critical parts.

  • Provide timely information to Customer Service and other functions regarding lead-times and delivery dates, including proactive updates or corrections as required to meet internal performance goals.

  • Work with other disciplines, as needed, to address RMAs, CARs and SCARs in order to achieve targeted KPI performance.

  • Provide recommendations to management for continuous improvement initiatives related to planning, purchasing and inventory management & control.

  • Negotiate vendor contracts for best price/best value and other terms and conditions in support of corporate business plan.

  • Complete management and execution of VMI vendor program.

  • Perform planning activities utilizing MRP system and other planning tools to ensure high level of service to internal and external customers.

  • Manage vendor issues regarding quality, delivery, cost, and other contractual obligations.

  • Provide strategic analysis and recommendations to management for continuous improvement initiatives related to planning, purchasing and inventory management & control.

  • Accurate and timely maintenance of ERP/SYSPRO system including item master records, BOMs, component pricing, vendor details, etc.

  • Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits related to sourcing and supplier quality.

  • Occasional (5%) travel required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education / Training / Skills / Experience:

  • Minimum of an AA/AS degree plus five years of recent and relevant business experience in a manufacturing environment. Two additional years of relevant experience may be substituted for degree.

  • Experience with product data management and configuration management processes in an ISO 9001 certified manufacturing environment

  • Advanced organizational abilities, oral & written communications and interpersonal skills are mandatory.

  • Experience with MRP systems, specifically system setup and optimization activities

  • Advanced ability to perform job with minimal supervision

  • Advanced ability to analyze and resolve moderately complex problems.

  • Advanced ERP/MRP system experience as a user required. Syspro experience strongly preferred.

  • Basic ISO 9001 quality system knowledge.

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Advanced EXCEL proficiency preferred.

  • Demonstrated electronic component purchasing experience required.

  • Experience in use of purchasing cards including timely statement reconciliation.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of purchasing, inventory control, and manufacturing processes

  • Product Lifecycle Management system experience

  • Candidates must have experience analyzing material markets, negotiation skills, have experience with vendor on-site inspections, ISO regulations and procurement reporting systems.

  • Working knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma tools and inventory management techniques dealing with traditional material management systems required.

  • APICS certification is a definite plus.

  • High level of initiative and strong work ethic.
