Technical Director - Biomedical Animation

UWorld's in-house department of biomedical artists creates educational animations and illustrations for medical students. Our growing animation team is looking for a generalist technical director who can help optimize our animation production process by developing tools, rigs, asset libraries, managing our render farm/workstations, and general troubleshooting. The TD will primarily be collaborating with our animators but will also aid the illustrators with their 3D process when needed.
Minimum Education:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Animation or a related technical field
Minimum Experience:
- 2+ years of experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in animation and art development in C4D, Redshift, Zbrush, and AfterEffects
- Proficiency in Python or other similar languages
- Self-driven, good communicator, and a great team player
- Ability to perform multiple tasks, set priorities and problem-solving
- Confidently work in an environment with high expectations
- Receptive to continuous feedback from peers and management
- Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills
- Excellent collaborative skills, coordinating and working with multiple departments to achieve set goals
- Excellent file management skills
- Excellent writing skills

Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with the animation lead and animators to develop tools and determine best practices that will increase efficiency and productivity
- Provide production support to Animators, troubleshooting assets and shots, and helping artists with general problem-solving
- Create and communicate documentation about developed tools and train other users to use the developed tools
- Create procedural and reusable 3D assets
- Help develop and maintain a 3D asset database
- Help develop and maintain a technical pipeline for the Animation team.
- Keep up with the latest trends and tools for animation and interactive content development.
- Train, inspire and develop medical animators to problem-solve technical issues while providing constructive feedback.
- Manage and develop render farm and workstations
- Research, test, and roll out new technologies to the team as they become available
- Support the illustration team's 3D process.
