The Point-of-Care (POC) Coordinator serves as the POC testing regulatory and compliance expert for >500 end-users in inpatient and hospital based clinics within UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper. Additionally, this role will provide cross coverage as needed for ambulatory based clinics. The POC Program Coordinator leads all activities related to POC methodologies and instruments, including installation, validations, instructions, education/training, troubleshooting, and managing all activities related to accreditation and quality. This role will provide routine rounding, proactive audits, and lead process improvement related activities. Serves as liaison and responsible party for applicable regulatory inspections (i.e., the College of American Pathologists and Joint Commission Point-of-Care inspections ...etc.). Able to assess waived and non-waived competency for POC testing personnel, including but not limited to nursing, based on CLIA, TJC, and CAP requirements.
Patient Care: Shows a commitment to provide the highest level of patient care.
- Collects labels and prepares specimens for testing.
- Maintains required documentation for all lab procedures.
- Processes requisitions for testing.
- Prepares and distributes reports.
Safety: Adheres to all workplace and trade safety laws, regulations, standards, and practices.
- Performs quality control testing to assure accuracy of patient testing.
- Performs equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Practices safety policies to maintain a safe working environment.
- Performs all duties to satisfy regulations in preparation for inspections.
Teamwork: Cooperates within a team to achieve goals and deliverables.
- Provides information and consultation to requestors.
- Recognizes interdependencies with other areas and supports other staff as needed.

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
Education: 4 Year/Bachelor's Degree from an accredited University in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics, or similar program required.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as laboratory technologist including two years with moderate complexity testing- required.

Licensure: MT/MLS Certification from ASCP or AMT required. See additional skills for more details.
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: All individuals certified ASCP beginning January 1, 2004, must participate and maintain ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) through the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP). All individuals who are certified AMT beginning January 1, 2006, must participate and maintain AMT Certification Continuation Program (CCP). The ability to work and make decisions independently. Ability to prioritize and manage several job functions at one time. Ability to work efficiently and accurately. Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally through listening, writing, talking, and reading. Ability to operate equipment at both sitting levels and/or standing levels. Ability to communicate via telephone, Lab Information System and verbally. Computer knowledge with emphasis on using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Capable of working directly with nursing personnel or other point-of-care testing team members and patients. Experienced in writing policies, procedures, and criterion checklists for all new POC instruments and kit tests. Flexibility and adaptability to work additional hours or shifts. Work effectively under stress. Must possess knowledge of the regulatory and accreditation agencies' standards. Must possess knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient(s)' age and acuity.

The job requires constant sitting, standing, walking, and bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive body movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
