Job Description

The Food Enterprise and Event Specialist's responsibilities include venue and building management during events, customer service, vendor communication, event scheduling, inquiry management, invoicing, staff scheduling, onsite supervision of event staff, scheduling, and conducting tours. Event rentals at UTEC include weddings, private parties, nonprofit and corporate functions, performances, meetings, and more.

Madd Love Meals responsibilities include: Customer service lead for partner organizations, schedule and spreadsheet management, some reporting, packaging, and delivery of goods if needed

The Food Enterprise and Event Specialist will work with the Director of Food Enterprise, Finance team, Development team, and other UTEC Staff to execute duties.

Serving young adults throughout Merrimack Valley (Lowell, Lawrence and Haverhill), UTEC was founded in 1999 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping young adults (ages 17-25) overcome the very real challenges of poverty, gang involvement, unemployment. UTEC reaches 500+ youth annually through an evidence-based model aimed at reducing recidivism while increasing education and employment attainment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise operations of meetings and events including setup and break down
  • Provide outstanding communication and customer service to UTEC clients and guests
  • Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and other staff to execute events
  • Training, scheduling, and supervision of events staff as needed
  • Occasional business development including tours and inquiry response
  • Maintenance of MLM scheduling, communication, and data.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Event or catering experience, ideally in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Flexible schedule with consistent night and weekend availability.
  • Ability to balance friendly customer service with enforcement of the venue’s rules.
  • Experience working at a nonprofit events venue is a plus.
  • Ability to stay calm, keep renters calm, and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Ability to transition between periods of downtime and periods of busy work easily.
  • Willingness to help with light manual labor: stacking chairs, moving tables, etc.
  • Must have reliable transportation (hours are often beyond those of public transportation).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Youth work experience is not required but would be a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Work standing for extended periods
  • Some bending, stooping, and/or squatting
  • Possible exposure to different temperatures and humidity levels
  • Exposure to food allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, soy, fish, shellfish, wheat, eggs, milk)
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull weights of up to 60 pounds

Salary/Benefits: Salary range of $35,000 - $55,000, commensurate with experience.
