Job Description

 

The University of New Mexico’s Project ECHO is currently seeking an Engineering Team Lead to join our ECHO Digital Team and deliver innovative technology solutions to our growing movement of 400 partners in 40 countries. Project ECHO exists to democratize life-saving medical knowledge—linking experts at centralized institutions with regional, local, and community-based workforces. We are experiencing an exponential growth and aim to touch the lives of 1 billion people by 2025. In this role, you will use your skills and experience to make a significant impact in saving and improving lives around the world.

As the Engineering Team Lead, you will oversee the software engineering of the ECHO Digital platform and all integrations with commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions. You will be in charge of identifying and analyzing new technologies as well as mentoring and guiding the team in implementation of those in the ECHO Digital platform. You will work in close collaboration with the Engineering Lead at ECHO India and participate in development of the ECHO Digital platform and roadmap in collaboration with the Sr. Product Manager, the Lead UI/UX Designer and the Data and Community Managers.

As the Engineering Team Lead, you will also:

·         Create detailed engineering plans, processes, and procedures for the engineering team to use and abide by, including setting technical direction, implementation choices, coding styles, and the establishment of best practices and technical standards

·         Lead multiple autonomous engineering teams or squads; breaking down projects into small functional units and assign pieces of the project to each team member, knowing their particular strengths.  Facilitate the execution of tasks; solve coordination issues faced by team members and mentor junior developers; oversee code review process and help solve merge conflicts

·         Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by engineering staff by overseeing automated tests and quality assurance checks to verify the quality of completed projects

·         Communicate project progress and updates to the IT Director and CTO

·         Monitor and determine various staffing and training needs.  Will hire, train, and supervise new engineering staff members

·         Design custom application modifications to enhance functionality; create and update documentation for applications

·         Collaborate with product and UI/UX teams on development of new solutions and review and approve solution designs prior to development

·         Spearhead various research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for new projects and improved processes

Project ECHO is a telemedicine and distance-learning program with partners all over the world.  Some work hours outside of normal business hours may be required. Additionally, we often use remote collaboration tools to enable some telework.
