## Position Summary

The Division of Infectious Disease at the UNC School of Medicine is recruiting for an Open Rank Tenure Track/Tenured faculty appointment. The UNC HIV Cure Center is focused on the discovery, development, and implementation of new treatments to allow durable treatment-free remission of HIV infection (cure). The HIV Cure Center is supported by federal funds and a public-partnership between the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Glaxo SmithKline. The Center seeks to comingle academic and industry approaches, redefining research and seeking the breakthroughs needed to tackle this extraordinarily challenging global health issue.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
At the Assistant Professor rank, the ability to establish a successful independent research program and a growing national reputation are required. At the Associate/Full Professor rank applicants are expected to have and maintain a successful independent research program with extramural funding and an established national reputation as a leader in their field. All applicants must have a research focus in the study of HIV persistence (latency mechanisms, immune response, drug development, viral clearance, reservoir characterization, novel assays, or therapeutics) and/or HIV viral clearance (drug/antibody testing and development, immune response and other novel approaches). The applicant's research may employ a wide variety of experimental approaches including a range of molecular and cellular biology techniques and in vitro and in vivo models.

## Educational Requirements

MD or PhD in Biology, Immunology, Virology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field

## Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate/s must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. or equivalent degree and a track record of rigorous lab-based research demonstrated by an outstanding publication record and the proven ability to establish or to have already established a successful independent research program. In addition, Associate/Full Professor level applicants are expected to have extramural funding and a national reputation as a leader in their field. Technical skills including a range of molecular and cellular biology techniques, in depth knowledge of in vitro and in vivo models. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Excellent teaching skills in both didactic and interactive teaching styles are highly desirable. For applicants with an MD, interest in clinical and translational activities is also desired.
