Summary
You will serve as a Air Traffic Control Specialist (Terminal) in the Airfield Operations of MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR.
This position has promotion potential to the GS-13 grade. If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.

Responsibilities
  • You will coordinate the departure or arrival instructions issued between the Control Tower, Radar Final Controller or Arrival/Departure Controller.
  • You will conduct On The Job Training (OJT) with student air traffic controllers to ensure safe, proper application of service while instructing the students in technique and procedures.
  • You will monitor Tower/Radar equipment for operational readiness and ensure that outages are recorded and that action is taken to correct discrepancies.
  • You will present air traffic control and other airport or airspace information to military and civilian pilots.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position requires rotating shift work.
  • This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Possses a valid and current Federal Aviation Adminstration Air traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) for Terminal (radar and no-radar) certification (a.k.a Pink Card) OR
  • Possess an Air Traffic Control Specialist Certidicate with Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON)/Combined En Route Radar Approach (CERAP)/Air Route Traffic Control Center/(ARTCC) rating.
  • Possess a valid and current Federal Aviation Administration Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) or ppossess a Control Tower Operator Certificate.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
Qualifications
GS-13:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: control air traffic for busy and complex Federal Airspace for military and civilian air traffic (control tower and radar); manage the administration work of an Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility; formulate and coordinate facility flight check requirements for navigational aids, radar and radio communications equipment; plan and facilitate ATC training activities; and advise facility on compliance with FAA standards.
GS-12:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: maintain continual operation of airport movement for a military and civilian air traffic facility (control tower and radar); process the administration work of an Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility; record facility flight check requirements for navigational aids, radar and radio communications equipment; assist with ATC training activities; and verify facility compliance with FAA standards.
