Job Description: 

Tyto Athene is seeking an experienced Optical Network Engineer to work at one of our customer sites in NC. The Optical Network Engineer will work with the customer engineering team to understand the network design, provisioning parameters, service requirements, and customer process. Use the information from the customer engineering team, Ciena product documentation, and career technical knowledge, to develop technical documentation. This will be used by the customer’s IT development team to automate operation processes, and to implement network changes.

The Optical Network Engineer Resident Service Support Specialist - RS3, will be the resident Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the network and possess a background in cybersecurity related topics and will support other Tyto Athene personnel during the execution of similar Information Assurance tasks as required.

Essential Functions:

Help integrate required information into high quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience. This includes High level architecture capture, Detailed and Low-level design capture, Golden Config capture, API interfaces and attributes to support QoS, Services provisioning, Routing Config management, statistics retrieval and telemetry, and specific maintenance actions to support the deployment in field for the cross-portfolio solution.

The candidate should possess strong DoD IA skills and have worked with STIG implementation, scans, and mitigation of findings. The candidate will have knowledge of performing IAVA mitigation and implementing updates and patches to clear any findings.

Other Functions:

Design and use test plans to configure and integrate network elements on Carrier grade IP Networking equipment

Manage aspects of the customer’s network trial, deployment & post-sales support, which includes fault tracking, managing, and resolving identified issues, provide high-level technical support to key DWDM customers

Execute channel adds and other change activity in the customer’s Regional Network, conduct network audits to plan the channel requirements, provide design documentation, and execute remote provisioning

Access tools to submit and manage Maintenance Window tickets in support of projects

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

Remote work will not be authorized

Requires work on-site in a technical office environment; visits to data center, telephone Central Office or, other telecommunications facility may be required on site

Extensive and intricate work with a computer to resolve complex network issues

Extensive use of computerized software tools and programs, scripting, and de-bugging

Required Education/Experience and Competencies:

Position requires an active DoD SECRET security clearance or the ability to obtain one.

Optical networking: 2 years (Required)

US work authorization (Required)

BSEE/CS combined with 2+ years of related experience preferred

Layer 3 knowledge of IP networking, MPLS, RSVP-TE, BGP.

Segment routing may be introduced to the customer network, therefore, knowledge of segment routing is desired

Experience with Ciena’s Routing Switching portfolio 39xx/51. Ciena's Service-Aware Operating System (SAOS) is strongly desired

Device management knowledge/awareness (OAM&P). (Exposure the Ciena MCP would be a benefit)

Understanding of Netconf/Yang and associated API command structure

Network operational experience. Good IP routing knowledge both standards-based theory and configuration/provisioning (OSPF, BGP, ISIS, MPLS based IP VPN’s). 2 years of experience engineering packet transport solutions in the context of large carrier and enterprise networks is essential.

Hands-on experience engineering, testing, or deploying networks on Carrier Ethernet or IP based platforms with (Ciena, Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Juniper)

Excellent understanding of MEF based Carrier Ethernet Services.

Experience with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Visio, and other tools. 

Hands-on experience and working knowledge of provisioning of packet networking related technologies (IP/MPLS, MPLS-TE, MPLS-TP, QinQ, 1588V2, Synch E services, TDM Pseudowires etc.)

Ability to demonstrate knowledge in a technology or solution area such as Optical Transport Network (OTN), SONET/SDH, PON/FTTH, VoIP, IPTV, etc

Experience with DCI or Data Center experience, Metro networks deployment, Video/MSO experience, experience with SDN/NFV would be an asset.

Working knowledge of UNIX/LINUX and Windows system administration. Proven debugging and troubleshooting skills.

Familiarity with security concepts and the handling of protected customer data

Highly self-motivated team player with ability to collaborate and interact with cross-functional organizations both within Ciena, our customers and with our partners in the face of significant challenge or ambiguity

Meticulously execute test plans or method of procedure while thoroughly documenting results in a comprehensive manner

Ability to work on a team to provide Cybersecurity support to customer in a military environment and successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously.

Candidates must be highly analytical and effectively able to troubleshoot and prioritize needs, requirements, and other issues. Aside from technical skills, prospective candidates should have excellent communications, teamwork, leadership, and conflict management skills. Must be committed to continuous learning and system development.
