Two Rivers Public Charter School is looking for a dynamic, dedicated, Director of Math (4-8) to become part of a vibrant educational community.



Two Rivers Public Charter School serves a diverse group of learners across three locations in Wards 5 and 6. Staff at Two Rivers create an exciting educational environment in which students and staff become a community of learners on a journey of discovery. Two Rivers uses the EL Education model, which emphasizes interactive, hands-on, project-based learning. The school focuses on the whole child, recognizing the importance of character education and social-emotional needs of children while helping them achieve academic excellence.


The Two Rivers staff shares a strong belief that all children can learn and be high achievers. The curriculum at Two Rivers is rigorous, standards-based, and provides opportunities for students to excel in all areas. An integrated arts program and a content-based Spanish program augment the school’s demanding academic program. These elements come together through learning expeditions that allow students to incorporate and apply their classroom learning through real-world experiences. The mission of Two Rivers is to nurture a diverse group of students to become lifelong, active participants in their own education, develop a sense of self and community, and become responsible and compassionate members of society.


Director of Math (4-8)

The Director of Math (4-8) is primarily responsible for developing and fostering the effective implementation of Two Rivers’ innovative and equitable elementary math program. The Director will collaborate with leaders and teachers to continuously and consistently implement research-based math practices and ensure effective implementation of Two Rivers’ adopted curricular tools, leading to improved math outcomes for students. The Director of Math is an effective curriculum program manager with deep expertise in elementary school curriculum implementation. The Director of Math will report to the Two Rivers Chief Academic Officer and work with school-based administrators and other content directors to help Two Rivers succeed in its mission and champion our network-wide commitment to engaging with and addressing issues of inequity.



Curriculum Implementation

  • Work closely with the Chief Academic Officer, Principals, Assistant Principals, and other content directors to implement and lead the school-wide math program
  • Foster network-wide use of high-quality common-core-aligned elementary school math materials, including unit plans and assessments, in response to student achievement data.
  • Support instructional leaders in utilizing grade-level structures to monitor and use student and teacher data to inform and direct actions
  • Support school-based leadership teams with determining responses to student needs within the math MTSS model
  • Create a system to evaluate the implementation of our math curriculum program
  • Step in, as necessary, during emergency long-term absences for leadership staff


Data Management

  • Monitor student math data for students in grades 4-8
  • Work with school-based leadership teams to create an ongoing system of data analysis, progress monitoring, and action planning
  • Regularly analyze student benchmark and progress monitoring data to support staff in delivering high-quality math interventions


Teacher Development and Observation

  • Observe math instruction across the network to support our leaders in prioritizing the next steps for teachers to implement math program at a consistently high level
  • Collaborate with our school-based leadership teams to organize learning walks for staff and leadership team
  • Work with our school-based leadership teams to provide targeted math support for teachers in need.
  • Develop schools’ ability to evaluate students’ math development and provide effective interventions, as needed
  • Lead team meetings (eg. common planning, vertical teams, data meetings) to support teachers’ ability to plan and deliver data-driven math instruction
  • Along with school leadership teams, support teacher leaders in their ability to lead cycles of continuous for their assigned grade band/content area
  • Lead light-moderate coaching cycles as outlined in the Two Rivers Way in Coaching


Professional Development

  • In collaboration with the Two Rivers Learning Institute, develop and facilitate professional development sessions on math curricula and pedagogy for leaders and teachers
  • Participate in national and local educational community discussions and conferences to stay current with educational issues
  • Present at conferences and meetings to establish Two Rivers’ voice in education
  • Support school leaders with implementation of new teacher cohort
  • Lead/co-lead teaching fellow cohort
  • Assist school leaders with planning and facilitating math-based professional development
  • Facilitate professional development for 4rd-8th grade teachers and special education teachers
  • Facilitate learning for Two Rivers families regarding our educational model through content-specific nights as directed
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

  • Strong teaching ability and a passion for leading professional development
  • Understanding of organizational growth and development
  • Excellent communication, public relations, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills; extremely careful attention to detail and follow-through
  • Expertise in education from early childhood to middle school


Educational Background and Work Experience

  • At least two years of successful experience as a network or district leader
  • At least five years of combined experience as a leader and teacher in an urban area with a track record of high student achievement
  • Significant experience planning, facilitating, and leading adult learning
  • A master’s degree in a relevant field is highly preferred or ten years of experience in leadership
  • Experience with deeper learning is required, and experience in a project-based learning school or a school in the EL Education network is preferred
