Job Summary: Revenue Accountant – (Fully-Remote) - Washington, DC

We are representing a fully-remote Revenue Accountant opportunity with a nationally recognized digital media company based here in DC. This person will support all facets of the revenue accounting team, including month-end close, ensuring ASC 606 compliance, and other special projects as assigned. This is a newly created position due to growth, will report directly to the Revenue Accounting Manager, and sit along a team of 13.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare supporting revenue accounting documentation, including revenue accounting checklists, position papers and revenue allocation spreadsheets for booked orders.
  • Review fully executed customer contracts to conclude on appropriate accounting treatment and identify any issues to ensure that revenues are accounted for in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (ASC 606).
  • Prepare accounting entries and reconciliations related to deferred revenue and unbilled receivables
  • Review and approve revenue allocation and revenue plans in the accounting system to ensure accurate revenue recognition treatment in the general ledger and support the monthly closing process.
  • Work directly with our sales and account management teams to obtain needed data and reporting accesses to process monthly revenue entries
  • Collect and interpret necessary data to accurately invoice customers
  • Work with the Manager and other revenue accountants to analyze and document proper GAAP accounting interpretations of complex insertion orders and non-standard contracts Assist with Fair Value (SSP) analyses of historical sales transactions.
  • Support annual audit and quarterly reviews by providing external auditors with requested documentation for revenue transactions being tested.
  • Identify areas for process improvements and update internal process documentation
  • Perform special projects and analysis as needed

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field required
  • 1 –3 years of accounting/audit experience, preferably at “Big 4” or large public accounting firm OR large corporate accounting environment
  • CPA or CPA Parts passed preferred
  • ASC 606 experience a plus!
  • Prior Software experience with Salesforce a plus.
  • Strong written communication skills; Excellent time management and organizational skills.
