Job Description

We are seeking a Process Engineering Analyst to join the COE (Centers of Excellence) Engineering team, based out of Raleigh, NC. This individual must be a self-starter and possess an advanced working proficiency in technical problem solving, data modeling and analytics, SPC (Statistical Process Control), six sigma and lean manufacturing. The position focuses on six key areas: tag configuration, trending, reports, alerts, dashboards and training on all these tools. This role is a great opportunity to join our team while adding value across multiple areas of the business with the intent of transitioning to a Process Engineer role. This position reports to the Director of Engineering - COE and provides support all Enviva sites.


  • Using the our Four Pillars of Operational Discipline, this position is responsible for (5) key deliverables:
    • Design and create tools, trends and reports to measure and quantify process performance; optimize overall process metrics
    • Support commissioning of new and existing facilities by setting up process data historian systems before production ramp up
    • Address the needs of the business through advanced problem solving and detailed hands- on technical troubleshooting
    • Learn all process areas by supporting SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) in adding value to the business while preparing for transition into a Process Engineer role
    • Recognize gaps and proactively provide solutions based on extensive knowledge of Enviva's process, manufacturing environment and requirements
  • Compile daily plant performance summaries across process areas into monthly and quarterly KPI (Key Performance Indicator) rollups and present to site operations and cross-functional department leaders
  • Build widely accessible and standardized "dashboard" reports that communicate the current real time "winning or losing" status of any plant or region
  • Create and deploy standardized trends across all sites to facilitate quick and easy performance comparisons
  • Build and improve upon existing standard email reports summarizing daily plant performance for site operations and key stakeholders
  • Work with process and controls engineers in setting up standard mass email notification systems indicating imminent plant issues for process owners and site operations
  • Manage and organize requests related to process data historian (setting up tags and new user accounts) using defined standards and protocols
  • Develop and provide training for site and regional employees on how to access and use features such as live trending and historical reports on process data historian
  • Actively participate in the troubleshooting of the most challenging problems by providing tools that easily quantify all available data and quickly lead to a solution
  • Drive continuous improvement, and introduce new technology innovations where appropriate
  • Communicate and advise key business leaders (executives and plant management) on methods and options for improving operations through technical solutions
  • Collaborate with process engineers, controls engineers, IT and operations to advance the use of any and all data to drive advanced problem-solving efforts and add value to the business


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably BSME (Mechanical Engineering)
  • 2-3 years of experience in manufacturing-related engineering
  • Strong data analytical skills (Statistical and Data Visualization software experience is a plus)
  • Experience with process data historian systems (Rockwell VantagePoint experience is a plus)
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint with the ability to learn other applications related to the job
  • Project management skills for ensuring project delivery to customer expectations, schedule and budget
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate to engineering staff, cross functional departments, and upper management
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, technical aptitude, and problem-solving skills. Strong team building skills, including ability to coach, lead, and develop work teams, provide training, motivate/empower others, drive action, and resolve conflict
  • Must be a self-starter with ability to prioritize complex and dynamic workload while delivering progress across multiple initiatives
  • Demonstrated excellence in advanced problem solving and detailed hands on technical troubleshooting during commissioning, startup and normal operation of equipment
  • Must be data-driven and possess a high level of attention to detail
  • Interest and ability to understand PLC logic, HMI function and how it all works together to impact the process
  • Experience in wood, wood pellets and/or paper and pulp industry is a plus

Travel requirements:

  • Travel: 20-40% (overnight stays, 1-2 days a week)
