Provides high quality nursing care, including assessment, triage, treatments, disposition and documentation in compliance with Massachusetts nursing standards of care, in addition to practice standards, protocols and guidelines. Responsible for managing patient workflow for maximum efficiency. Collaborates with physician leadership and managers to provide supervision and coaching to members of the health care team to achieve integrated and coordinated patient care. Coordinates direct patient care provided by support staff. Assists the manager in the planning, designing, and organization of the department's workflows and procedures
**PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:**
Provides supervision of day to day operations of designated department. Serves as a resource, mentor and coach staff to maintain standards of care and department workflows.
Identifies opportunities for process improvement and positive development of the department. Achieves desired outcomes by setting goals and priorities that deliver results.
Maintains staffing levels to support patient care needs. Leads regular staff meetings with support from Clinical Nurse Manager/Nursing Director.
Provides regular performance feedback to employees by utilizing both formal evaluation tools and informal coaching sessions. Mentors and coaches staff with particular attention to leveraging clinical competency through the shared management of patients.
Addresses inadequate performance and disciplinary issues in a timely manner and holds staff accountable (with Clinical Nurse Manager/Nursing Director) through performance improvement plans; consults with Human Resources department and Practice Manager when appropriate.
Works with the physician leadership, management staff, and other members of the team to resolve conflicts.
Coordinates new employee training, CLIA, OSHA and other employee training as needed.
Participates in committees, attends meetings and communicates with departmental staff on on-going basis.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of laws, regulations and policies within the department and those applicable to the organization as a whole. Establishes and implements policies, procedures and performance standards for supervisory area. Is consistent and fair in their interpretation of policies and regulations. Holds staff accountable for complying with procedures.
Demonstrates an understanding of how their department impacts the organization financially and how their department supports the organization's mission.
Evaluates and recommends/implements opportunities for revenue enhancements, expense reductions to optimize the organizations bottom line.
# **Clinical Duties:**
Ensures the delivery of high quality nursing care and service to meet defined standards. Facilitates consistent compliance with clinical guidelines and practices.
Works with other members of the health care team to optimize performance and maximize patient satisfaction.
When providing direct patient care, assesses the physician and psychological needs of patients through the use of the nursing process. Provides prevention, early intervention, health education and direct patient care as needed. Documents all interventions appropriately.
Conducts Telephone Triage. Provides support to physicians in managing complex patients. Identifies acutely ill patients; assist with stabilization/hospital transfers.
Recognizes urgent/emergent situations. Takes a lead role in initiating emergency response, treatment and stabilization of the patient. Reviews and responds to patient problems and complaints in collaboration with physician leaders and other management staff.
Administers medications within the scope of practice. Insertion and maintenance of IV catheters.
Works to achieve high levels of patient satisfaction by helping to resolve patient concerns or complaints. Assesses patients for acuity and anticipates treatment plan. Provides emotional support to the patient and family.
Regular and reliable attendance in accordance with department needs and company policies.
Adheres to all HIPAA privacy and security policies and practices. Reports violations and incidents they observe and cooperates in investigations as requested by management.
**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:**
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current licensure in the State of Massachusetts required. Related Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Current CPR certification.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical area. Minimum of two (2) years clinical supervisory experience preferred. Demonstrated skill in developing and coaching staff required. Triage experience and ACLS experience preferred. Proficiency in IV Therapy.
Working knowledge of windows based computer environment. Knowledge of Epic patient management system a plus.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal are essential. Multi-tasking, problem solving and decision making skills. Ability to organize, analyze and interpret clinical data. High level of dependability and accuracy required.
Must have the ability to work well with others in a very busy, close environment as well as independently with minimal supervision. Works well with others by demonstrating flexibility and working in a collaborative manner to meet departmental needs.

# **WORKING CONDITIONS:**
Lifting up to 25 lbs., bending and stretching required in storing of supplies and files distribution. Individual is expected to use proper body mechanics and request assistance as needed.
Job requires sitting and working at a computer for extended periods of time.
On rare occasions may be required to travel to other practice locations from time to time to attend meetings and/or provide coverage as deemed necessary by management.

Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
Responsible for the direct supervision of the clinical staff to include Medical Assistants, LPN's and RN's.
