Job Summary:
Perform detail test, evaluation, and qualification of all Trimble Transportation new and existing hardware products.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Hardware QA/Test Engineer is responsible for insuring our products meet the robust criteria for quality and reliability required in the transportation industry. If you enjoy performing shake, bake and break on electronic and mechanical assemblies to find their weaknesses and functional limits, this is a perfect opportunity to apply your expertise. Products to be evaluated include our own designed products as well as 3rd party OEM and joint development hardware. Additional responsibilities include first article inspections of cable products, design/manufacturing evaluation and testing of new and existing products and performing failure analysis on tested products and field returns. We offer a flexible, informal work environment in a well-resourced HW design and test lab, including thermal chamber and vibration table with a variety of tools and electrical test instruments.
· Develop and execute test plans utilizing test methodology based on industry standards and customer requirements.
· Prepare and analyze test data, evaluate and report on results.
· Define and apply functional test methods such as SAE protocol emulation, proprietary software and internal diagnostics to the products-under-test.
· Perform in-house vibration, thermal and electrical testing, validation and analysis of various hardware products.
· Work with offsite test labs to schedule testing not performed in-house such as Radiated/Conducted Emissions, ESD, Susceptibility, Humidity, etc. Set-up test units, verify functionality and monitor unit-under-test performance during off-site testing.
· Assist in engineering evaluation of new and existing (android/windows) display devices as well as Video, WiFi, GPS, Cellular, On-Board-Computer and Vehicle Data Interface products.
· Assist with defining and implementing manufacturing process improvements related to testing, failure analysis and product improvement activities.
Required Skills:
· BSEE, BSME or AS and related experience
· 3 years + of work experience in one or more areas such as hardware engineering development, product validation/quality assurance, reliability analysis, manufacturing test development.
· Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, ability to create custom cabling and fixturing to perform testing as needed.
· Familiarity with industry/military standards related to environmental testing, EMI compliance, ESD and reliability analysis: SAE J1455, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-202, ISO7637, EN61000, CISPR 25
· Ability to use Office tools such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. to analyze, document and report test and evaluation results.
Preferred Skills:
· Soldering skills (components onto circuit boards and cabling) a plus.
· Knowledge of IPC 610 and 620 PCB/Cabling quality standards.
· Knowledge of accelerated testing techniques such as HALT and Demonstrated Reliability Testing.
· Demonstrated flexibility, initiative, quality focus and innovation in testing approach and methods
· Comfortable working and collaborating in a fast-paced environment
· Able to work independently and set priorities on tasks
