Job Details

· Responsible for transferring diagnostic and treatment terms from doctors and other health professionals into coded form for, but not limited to; billing and insurance purposes. This is accomplished by reviewing and analyzing patient health records to determine relevant diagnoses and treatment plans for individual patients. In addition, this process often requires contact with the providers of a patient’s healthcare in order to ensure proper coding. Read More...

· Need to have an in-depth grasp of the content of the health records with which they work so they can find necessary information to properly code the records.

· Work in numerous medically related settings, including both in- and outpatient treatment locations.

· Prepares all medical claims for billing and enter into billing software system. Gathers appropriate documentation for claims submission. Resolves data entry errors for clean claim submissions

  • Documentation: Obtains necessary documentation (updated medical order, clinical notes, patient agreement, etc.) and submits to insurance carrier for continued coverage determination.
  • Client/Physician Interaction: Contacts clients and physician offices to relay and/or obtain pertinent information and/or documents to effect billing of claims.
  • Data Entry: Creates patient records, charge entry and payment posting.
  • Medical Collections: collection of past due accounts by following up with insurance companies to learn the status of claims. May also submit appeals on denied claims as required.

· Denial Management: monitoring and trending to include corrective actions on all denials

· Compile, abstract and maintain patient medical records to document condition and treatment.

  • Review records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Release information to persons and agencies according to regulations.
  • Protect the security of medical records to ensure that confidentiality is maintained.
  • Identify, compile and code patient data, using ICD-9-CM and CPT and other standard classification coding systems.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required (some college preferred)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in medical billing
  • Minimum of 1 year in a Coding position
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Experience working with all payer types to include Medicare, Medicaid, and third party commercial insurance companies
  • Experience with Educating Providers and Staff for Coding-Billing needs
  • Technical Skills: Must have knowledge of a medical coding-billing system(s)
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills, follows procedures, works well independently, organize and prioritize workload.
  • PC Competencies: Understand and have a working knowledge of the windows environment
  • Behavioral Competencies: Support the company’s vision and mission; maintain confidentiality of all work information; demonstrate an ability to function successfully in a team environment; exhibit courteous and respectful treatment of internal and external customers; display a positive attitude and flexibility in a changing situation; participate in identifying problems and suggesting solutions
  • Must be fully aware of HIPAA guidelines and willing to implement them at all times with all patients
  • Certification that indicates they have received thorough training in the anatomy and physiology of the human body and illness forms so that they can properly recognize the different signs, symptoms, pathologies, diagnoses and other aspects of illnesses and treatments in order to translate them to a standardized code.
