Job Description

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

  General Responsibilities: Under the Direction of the Executive Director, the Director of Development will be responsible for creating and strengthening resources for the agency, including money, good will, volunteers, donations and public relations. The Director of Development will create an annual fund development plan and be responsible for the successful implementation of the plan. This will include grant-writing, special events, and campaigns, including Tri-Valley Haven’s current capital campaign.

General Requirements: Two years minimum experience in fund development and grant writing, two years marketing or public relations. Bachelor’s Degree required, two years in a nonprofit setting, preferable with a family violence or sexual assault focus. Flexibility and ability to manage time and tasks effectively required. Special events planning experience helpful, though not required. High level of literacy skills required. Completion of minimum required Agency Training within 6 months of employment (if not before).

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

I. RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

A. In conjunction with the Executive Director, functions as staff liaison to Board Fund Development Committee as necessary.

B. Develops and executes an annual development plan.

C. Coordinates special events, direct mailing and major gifts programs.

D. In conjunction with the Executive Director, coordinates grant applications.

E. In conjunction with the Executive Director, maintains or coordinates the relationships with donors, civic groups, and other TVH supporters. F. Assists in the procurement of in-kind donations as necessary.

G. Oversees production of the newsletter, some agency publications and marketing activities of TVH.

H. Supervise the Volunteer Coordinator and the associated responsibilities.

I. Supervise the Communications Specialist and the associated responsibilities.

II. SUPERVISION/MANAGEMENT

A. Hire, train and supervise the Volunteer Coordinator.

B. Hire, train and supervise the Communications Specialist.

C. Responsible for compliance and performance for foundation grant funding.

D. Oversees public relations and marketing.

E. Attend Management Team meetings as requested.

III. DONOR FILE MANAGEMENT AND SPECIAL EVENTS COORDINATION TASKS

A. Responsible for the management of Exceed database.

B. Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of Exceed donor database software.

C. Maintain staff training on Exceed software. 

D. Develop a range of Exceed reports identifying new donors, lapsed donors, donors by levels of giving, donor option, in-kind giving, etc.

E. Work with staff to develop a range of letters to donors that address and acknowledge a variety of donation types, levels, and frequency of support.

F. Download donor-option pledge and pledge payments reports from Donor Option websites. Set up annual pledge drives in Exceed.

G. Attend all Special Events committee meetings; offer leadership on event preparation as needed.

H. Review special event plan processes for smoother implementation

I. Explore online tools and resources for purposes of expanding fund development opportunities.

IV. GENERAL TASKS

A. Attends staff meetings, agency meetings and special events as requested.

B. Provide the Executive Director with a monthly departmental status report.

C. Have a valid California Driver's License and an insured automobile that the employee will use as necessary for agency related business.

D. Must maintain a good Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) in order to be able to drive for the agency.

V. OTHER RELATED TASKS AS ASSIGNED BY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WITHIN THE SCOPE OF TRI-VALLEY HAVEN’S MISSION.
