  • Salary range offered $134,142 -$145,000 yearly. This role has the potential to go up to $157,469 yearly with time and demonstrated success in the role.

Position Summary:

The Senior Director of Development (SDD) is a leadership position reporting to the Chief Development Officer and will oversee a fundraising team of 20 who raise $16M+ in philanthropy to meet the needs of youth in foster care across Washington State. In partnership the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Director of Development is responsible for leading all aspects of Treehouse’s robust contributed revenue program. This role oversees four direct reports who lead four revenue verticals: Major Gifts, Corporate and Foundation Giving, Community Giving, and Operations. As a people manager, the Senior Director of Development represents the department at the Senior Director level, an organizational wide leadership group that serve as key advisors to the Executive Team.


Along with driving the strategy and implementation of the fundraising program, the Senior Director of Development manages and solicits a portfolio of donors and collaborates across the teams to steward and grow philanthropic support of all kinds.


The Senior Director of Development will be joining Treehouse at a transformative moment in the organization’s history. Treehouse recently expanded all of its programs statewide, is celebrating its 35th Anniversary year, is about to complete a record-breaking fundraising year, and is mid-way through a strategic planning process that will set the vision for the future. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic, passionate, and fun team at a very exciting, growth-oriented time in the organization’s history. The SDD is one of five new positions being added to the Development & Marketing teams over the next few months to build the organization’s long-term fundraising capacity.

  • Serve as a thought partner to and primary delegate of the Chief Development Officer, stepping in to represent the organization when the CDO is not present.
  • In partnership with the CDO and Directors, oversee the execution of comprehensive strategy to raise contributed revenue with an emphasis on meeting key performance indicators, donor retention, lapsed donor reengagement, and significant growth in individual, corporate and foundation investments of five-, six-, and seven-figures.
  • Lead staff team in creating a measurable annual development plan to meet revenue and community engagement goals.
  • Lead fundraising operational excellence; identify and oversee the build out and implementation of any and all systems, procedures and processes necessary for efficiency, efficacy, and optimization.
  • Develop and implement a strategy for growing individual, corporate and foundation giving; use FY24 to create the departmental conditions necessary to grow philanthropic revenue exponentially in future years.
  • Oversee the growth of major gifts revenue, including instituting best practices in prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of five-, six-, and seven-figure individual donors.
  • Lead the regional expansion of Treehouse’s fundraising efforts by leveraging Treehouse’s statewide expansion to garner new revenue sources.
  • Set and track fundraising goals and metrics; regularly analyze and present progress toward key performance metrics, fundraising actuals, outcomes and plans to the Executive Team, Fund Development Committee, and the Board.
  • Partner with the CDO, Directors and committee chairs to optimize Board engagement in fundraising, ensuring their relationships and role on the board are leveraged in full; Serve as a relationship manager of several members of the Board of Directors.
  • Lead a team culture of continuous learning and improvement ? Foster a values-aligned approach to Treehouse’s fundraising practices.
  • Partner with the Chief Development Officer and Fund Development committee chairs to strengthen the organization’s culture of philanthropy.
  • Manage, supervise and mentor at least four direct reports; foster a positive, highly collaborative, communicative, results orientated team.
  • Ensure effective collaboration and timely coordinator between the fundraising team and Marketing and Communications team; ensure strategy alignment.
  • Facilitate cross-team project collaboration
  • Actively participate in Senior Director level initiatives and conversations; serve as a thought partner to the Executive Team.

Additional Functions:

  • Represent Treehouse at agency events and other select community events; serve as a spokesperson for the organization when needed.
  • Step in for the Chief Development Officer when requested or needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required:

  • At least 7+ years of direct experience in philanthropic fundraising; specific and proven success with individual major giving required.
  • Ability to achieve ambitious fundraising goals in collaboration Executive leadership, Board, and high-level volunteers.
  • Experience leading development work across a variety of disciplines; comprehensive knowledge of all areas of nonprofit development, including major gifts, annual giving, special events, corporate and foundation giving.
  • Excellent strategic thinking skills and ability to understand the intersection of multiple functions.
  • Prior experience developing and leading a team with varying levels of expertise.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a team builder, coach, and mentor with an ability to energize and engage a large staff.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Boards and high net worth donors; experience closing gifts at the high 5- and 6-figure plus levels.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the highest level of customer service and stewardship.
  • Deep commitment to racial equity and social justice and ability to effectively engage in candid conversations about diversity, equity, inclusion and justice.
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills; comfort with public speaking in front of large audiences.
  • Excellent relationship management; excellent interpersonal skills with both internal and external partners at all levels.
  • Strong work ethic with proven track record of creative problem solving, taking initiative, and the ability to plan, test ideas, learn, and adapt.
  • Ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative, set priorities, handle multiple projects, and exercise good judgment in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to be diplomatic and maintain a high level of discretion when working with confidential information.
  • Ability and aptitude with Salesforce or similar CRM databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to build working relationships with individuals of various ages, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities.
  • Ability and aptitude with Microsoft O365 and other technology necessary for successful day-to-day functioning in a business environment.
  • Clear nationwide criminal background check and driving record background check.

Desired

  • Demonstrated ability to raise at least $7 - $10 million annually preferred
  • Fluency in the experiences and needs of youth in foster care
  • Experience with Salesforce preferred
  • Experience with iWAVE preferred
  • Master’s Degree in a related field

Working Conditions:
