Job Title: Cannabis Dispensary General Manager

Job Type: Full Time (40 hours/week) 

Reports to: Ownership

Location: Soquel, CA (Santa Cruz County)

We are currently seeking a talented General Manager for Treehouse dispensary in Soquel. Please refer to the responsibilities and qualifications below.

To be a successful General Manager (“GM”), you must be able to mentor, motivate and positively influence staff, especially during times of low morale should they arise. The GM should foster a healthy work environment for all employees, encouraging teamwork while also empowering and supporting staff in meeting their individual goals. The GM directly supervises the Assistant General Manager (“AGM”) and will work closely with the AGM, the upper management team, and ownership, to ensure smooth operational flow. While overseeing the daily operations, the GM must be able to simultaneously work towards individual and company goals.

Daily Duties

  • Understand all aspects of the business from FoH to BoH, taking note of major issues facing the organization, and working collectively with management team to resolve/improve

  • Profit and Loss (P&L) report ownership; communicating status and subsequent needs to upper management team

  • Data Analysis: Identify underperforming metrics and develop strategies for improvement

  • Financial management alongside Bookkeeper and AGM 

  • Oversee and support Inventory Department regarding purchasing, inventory management, CA state and local compliance, & strategy 

  • Third party partnership management as necessary alongside AGM 

  • Ensuring adherence to shop policies as well as CA state and local regulations/laws

  • Manage, supervise, and direct the activities of assigned staff, effectively communicating and delegating goals, tasks, and responsibilities to the team to ensure a smooth operational flow 

  • Being part of the management on-call schedule and troubleshooting staff issues remotely as needed

  • Managing in-house security, ensuring shifts are properly staffed and security protocols are properly followed and documented. Shop security when on-site; must hold current BSIS CA Guard Card (If you do not currently hold, Treehouse will provide training)

Weekly Duties

  • Payroll management with the support of AGM & Bookkeeper

  • Participate in leadership meetings; contribute to solutions, communicate floor staff status to management team, and relay cascading messages to floor staff as necessary

  • Departmental meetings; participate in, plan, coordinate, and/or lead meetings along with department leads. Communicate cascading messages, discuss operations, announcements, reminders, and troubleshoot any issues brought up by staff members

As Needed Duties

  • Oversee recruitment and hiring, maintain and update job descriptions, job postings, and conduct interviews alongside AGM

  • Make recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, termination, or advancement of employees

  • In the absence of the AGM, understand and be able to conduct employee onboarding, in-shop employee orientation, training coordination, ongoing training, and education 

  • Conduct employee quarterly reviews in the absence of the AGM or Floor Manager

  • Managing personnel issues, including write-ups, incident reports, constructive conversations, etc. in collaboration with management team

  • Oversee and maintain professional & respectful relationships with vendors, brand partners, and distribution representatives 

  • Participate in developing and implementing operational rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to advance Treehouse’s goals and objectives

  • Timely planning, execution and allocation of resources to meet company goals and initiatives

  • Oversees all monthly inventory counts of all cannabis and non-cannabis products

  • Oversees all product purchasing

  • Oversees inventory turnover

  • Ensure all operations are conducted according to internal policies and procedures, driving continuous improvement and optimization of all processes, and amending/creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed 

  • Manage the daily general needs of the store (keys, cameras, alarms, safety, property improvements, etc.), finding solutions to problems as they arise and working alongside the upper management team to remedy/improve

  • Available for planned promotional sales days, such as First Fridays, THCA Days, Black Friday, and 4/20 


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required

  • Degree in business administration or similar a plus

  • Have a valid driver’s license

  • Must have reliable mode of transportation

  • At least 3 years of managerial experience

  • At least 1 year of cannabis experience

  • Additional experience from the cannabis industry, medical marijuana, or as a cannabis dispensary manager is a plus

  • Strong leadership skills; should be firm, but approachable

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Excellent oral and written skills, including strong spelling, grammar, and punctuation

  • Must be committed to providing outstanding customer service and demonstrating strong interpersonal skills

  • Excellent critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities

  • Strong ability to anticipate the needs of operations and others

  • Ability to evaluate situations and individuals and deliver constructive criticism appropriately

  • Ability to identify areas of improvement and provide coaching where necessary

  • Knowledge of MS Office, Google Drive, and both PC and Mac operating systems

Salary: $65,000 - $80,000
