Job Description

Primary Objectives and Responsibilities:

  • Strategy- Collaborates with executive staff to build and execute the strategic direction of the Payments channel, focusing on a consistent and frictionless member experience with competitive and simple ways for members to manage their payments, budgets and overall financial wellness. Defines the strategic priorities and division initiatives to deliver a dynamic end-user experience that aligns with our mission and vision, while positioning the credit union as a Payments leader in the markets we serve.
  • Culture- Ensures alignment with TCU’s mission, vision and organizational growth objectives. Learns, models and teaches TCU core values and strategic plan. Encourages the team and member facing behaviors that we expect. Coaches and develops leaders.
  • Data Analytics- Leverages data around member usage and member feedback analytics that help us to understand the relevance of our products and services and to continually improve the lineup to exceed member expectation while improving credit union profitability. Works directly with internal partners to develop strategies for execution. Develops Key Performance Indicators that track portfolio growth, health, trends, efficiency.
  • Innovation- Stays current with trends and capabilities on the payments landscape, including emerging technologies, products and capabilities. Advises, counsels, and educates Credit Union leadership and staff on the competitive, member service and financial impacts of these trends and capabilities. Adopts the Agile method of iterative and constant improvements.
  • Member Centric- Responsible for driving member satisfaction, experience, and engagement. Focuses on the member experience to enable the member journey from needs identification through to post fulfillment to attain their payments and overall financial wellness goals. Develops and implements member focus groups for test & learn strategy of new products and services.
  • Growth- Works with member-facing sales leaders for overall sales effectiveness, financial results, and continued channel delivery relevance. Collaborates to establish goals, develop plans to achieving those goals and the appropriate success metrics that measure the trending and overall results. Improves Payments performance as measured by market share, member adoption, migration (from outside payment options) revenue, and member satisfaction, driving TCU payments usage and penetration.
  • Operations- Oversees the operational health of the payment platforms and processes, keeping them current and efficient with regular review of key performance measurements. Complies with all applicable laws, rules and regulations. Mitigates risk with clear operations business practices and controls. Prepares and manages the division budget and overall business and financial performance, recognizing when changes need to occur in order to maximize the value that Payments can bring to our members’ experiences and the organization's financial outcome. 
  • Communication- Communicates effectively and on a frequent basis throughout the organization on all things “Payments”.
  • Community- Participates in civic and community activities to enhance the credit union’s image and visibility, as well as reinforce the credit union’s commitment to the communities we serve.
  • Teamwork & Leadership- Collaborates with Marketing Department to build and execute the Payments marketing strategy. Leads cross-functional project teams and initiatives to continuously enhance the business by developing frameworks, driving initiatives and ensuring accountability for results. Recruits, professionally develops, motivates and retains a team of high performing, results-oriented and member-focused staff. Drives the team to meet and exceed division goals and objectives by creating and holding them accountable to expected performance levels. Identifies gaps and innovates/adjusts as needs arise.
  • Board Meetings- Attends board meetings, reports on areas of responsibility and actively participates in the organizational short-and long-term strategic planning and goal setting. 

Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports directly to the SVP, Member Experience, Chief Retail Officer.
  • Direct supervisory responsibility for the Card Services and Central Operations (Item Processing) teams. Future responsibilities may include front line merchant card sales team.
  • Overall responsibility for all division employee engagement results by developing leaders who are fluent in coaching and developing our people with the skills, knowledge and strategies necessary to be successful in their role.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree is required (or equivalent work experience), MS or MBA is a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years of leadership experience (preferably in a financial institution and/or in the payments industry).
  • Ability to hit the ground running as part of a large and fast-moving team.

Skills & Abilities:

  • A successful track record of leading payments strategies in a high-transaction, “high tech-high touch” environment. Ability to serve as project leader for all channel delivery initiatives and coordinate cross-functional teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable financial institution and Visa laws and regulations.
  • Strong decision-making skills and proven ability to lead projects and ensure objectives, goals and commitments are met.
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with all levels of credit union staff, members, community, and regulatory agency representatives.
  • Experience in leadership, performance management, and staff development for career enhancement where applicable.
  • Ability to build effective and productive relationships with vendors and internal partners
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Team and goal oriented work focus.
  • Proven track record of leading teams to hit their sales targets
  • Ability to exercise judgment, initiative and tact in dealing with others. 
  • Sound understanding of credit union products and services.
