COTA Job Description
The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) helps provide rehabilitation service under the direction of a Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR). These services are provided to clients with mental, physical, developmental, and/or emotional impairments. The duties for a COTA are listed below:
Obtain client medical information and purpose of treatments through interview.
Assist in improving client's quality of life through therapeutic activity, modifications, adaptive equipment, strengthening, and/or education to overcome limitations.
Follow treatment plans developed in collaboration with the OTR for client-centered practice.
Document each treatment note with parent/guardian's signature at the end of each session.
Document progress notes on functional status of client's for collaboration with OTR on needs for update to current treatment plan.
Generate revenues by recording billable information of services provided.
Maintain a safe, healthy, and secure treatment environment by following laws, procedures, and standards of the work place.
Keep rehabilitation equipment operating by following operating instructions, trouble shooting, maintaining supplies, and notify supervisor when repairs are needed.
Protect and service occupational therapy practice by demonstrating professional standards, policies, procedures, federal and state laws.
Participate in continuing education opportunities to maintain licensure and certificate to engage in practice.
Schedule and confirm appointment sessions with parents/guardians in collaboration with the OTR.
Conduct re-evaluations on active clients.
Attend all scheduled staff meetings and training.
