Women in STEM: Digital Coding Internship

Townsquare Media is offering an unpaid internship program on our Digital Products team to junior developers. This is an opportunity for you to gain exposure to the many facets of a digital media company, learn from a wide range of coding mentors with decades of experience, gain insight into a dynamic work environment, and expand your professional network as well as the opportunity for full-time employment following completion of the internship.
Who Are We?
Townsquare is a community-focused digital media, digital marketing solutions, and radio company focused outside the top 50 markets in the U.S.
Our assets include Townsquare Interactive, a digital marketing services subscription business providing websites, search engine optimization, social platforms, and online reputation management for small and medium businesses (SMBs); Townsquare IGNITE, a proprietary digital programmatic advertising technology with an in-house demand and data management platform; and Townsquare Media, our portfolio of 322 local terrestrial radio stations in 67 cities with corresponding local news and entertainment websites and apps with a network of national music brands (such as XXL and Taste of Country).
Program Details
This internship will be with the Digital Products team. We build the digital solutions that power all three businesses mentioned above, but the internship will be focused on Townsquare Interactive and Townsquare Media.
  • 12-week, unpaid part-time micro-internship with potential for full-time employment (total time will depend on the internship start, so intern is done before school starts in September)
  • Full remote (our team is primarily centered around the NY area, but we have members based around the country)
  • Structure: This program is structured in two parts:
  • Part 1 Job Rotation (Weeks 1-8): The intern will rotate through eight different teams.
  • Part 2: Personal Project (Weeks 9-12). During the last four weeks, the intern will work with one of the eight teams on a project of her choice. See below for additional details on the job rotation.
  • Weekly time commitment: 9 hours
  • The intern will work with two Team Leads each week
  • 1:1 mentor time per week: 6 hours (will decrease to 3 hours per week during your personal project)
  • Flexible schedule, but during the workday.
  • Homework: 2 hours (this will grow when you focus on your personal project)
  • Group meeting: 1 hour
Qualifications
  • Rising senior in Computer Science or recent graduate
  • Knowledge of basic coding languages, especially PHP and JavaScript. (JavaScript is a higher priority.)
  • Basic programming experience
  • Ability to learn new software and technologies quickly
  • Flexibility
Additional Details
  • Part 1: Job Rotation: the intern will work with eight different teams. The leader of each of those teams will meet 1:1 with the intern, give her small coding assignments, and provide her with feedback on her work. The leader of each team will also share with the intern his/her personal and professional career pathway and help the intern understand how his/her team fits into the overall Townsquare Media company.
  • Part 2: Personal Project. The intern should note ideas for potential personal projects. During Weeks 9-12, the intern will work more closely with her chosen team to complete her project. During Week 12, the intern will present her Personal Project to the entire team.
