Principal Function: The Natural Resources Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, constructing, and restoring natural resources.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to: Performs maintenance work in District land and open space areas including, but not limited to, trail brushing, clearing downed trees, and erosion control; maintains and constructs drainage systems, trail bridges, culverts, fences, gates, turf lawns, and open spaces. Participates and implements a variety of natural, cultural, and historical interpretive programs for open space areas; leads educational tours, nature walks, and conducts on- or off-site environmental education and special interest programs. Participates in parks and open space construction and maintenance including carpentry, painting, and plumbing tasks, trail maintenance, native and traditional landscaping, turf lawns, and irrigation system installation and maintenance.
Conducts research and... gathers scientific information regarding site conditions; surveys field sites for flora, fauna, and other wildlife; assists in analysis of environmental impacts of projects and recreational use on District land; assists in development and implementation of resource management restoration plans for specific areas, trails, and preserves. Provides general oversight and training to seasonal and part-time staff; reviews completed work to ensure quality and completeness; provides input to supervisor on staff performance.
Evaluates assigned work projects including materials and staff resources needed to perform work; estimates time, materials, and equipment necessary for successful completion of a project; acquires necessary resources as appropriate. Inspects natural areas, wetlands, raingardens, turf lawns, forested areas, and open spaces for safety and security; identifies and reports hazardous conditions and facility maintenance needs to supervisor. Monitors inventory, orders supplies, and maintains purchase records within authorized budget.
Responds to concerns, problems, and/or complaints in a timely manner, maintaining a customer service philosophy. Assists with development, implementation, and evaluation of natural resource management and restoration plans for Department including, but not limited to, natural trails, native prairies, rain gardens, pollinator gardens, wetlands, woodland areas, open space, turf lawns, stream banks, and riparian areas. Assists with application of pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizers; ensures compliance with Department's Integrated Pest Management plan and best practices.
Assists with resource management task including identifying, controlling, and removing non-native invasive plants, pest control, identifying habitat concerns, and enhancing wildlife areas. Assists with volunteer projects. Assists with special events, as needed.Supervisory Participation & Control: This job has limited employee supervisory responsibilities.Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty according to the requirements of the Town of Brownsburg.

Previous experience working in municipal government is preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating park and facility maintenance.
