HVAC Mechanic

Job Summary:

To assist in the performance of duties necessary to keep the physical structure and associated equipment of hospital in good repair. Maintain and repair HVAC equipment and associated components in working order. Repair/install HVAC ducting, diffusers, dampers and controls. Maintain a current EPA Freon certificate. Maintain current refrigerant record of use.

Essential Functions and Duties:

Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner to reflect the highest integrity of the Plant Operation & Maintenance.

Assists in maintaining and repairing HVAC controls and associated equipment to maximize efficiency levels in all environmentally controlled areas.

Performs urgent corrective, routine and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems as required.

Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and systems as required.

As required, assists in maintaining electrical wiring and emergency generator systems. Inspects and tests equipment/systems.

Performs preventative maintenance duties to all physical structures of hospital and complies with all building safety codes. This is to include facility equipment and associated controls.

Assists in replacing, installing, repairing and testing electrical circuits, equipment, appliances and lighting systems as required.

Maintains routine records of all inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs performed on any equipment or system.

Performs manual duties as requested (i.e., moving supplies or furniture, replacing light bulbs, removing trash or scrap material).

Works day, evening or night shift as assigned.

Ability to do work on his/her own with only normal supervision.

A working knowledge of fire alarm and signal systems.

A thorough knowledge of how to use and maintain plant tools and equipment.

Participates in performance improvement and information management activities.

Maintains appropriate appearance and good hygiene with workmen type clothing and wearing hospital's identification badge at all times

Position Qualifications:

· High School diploma or equivalent.

· Minimum of 10 years experience with HVAC 5-10 ton systems.

· EPA Universal certificate

· Active CFC License

· Knowledge and observance of safety precautions.

· Troubleshoot equipment to determine repair, replacement, and disposal needs.

· Maintains records of maintenance repairs.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

· Associates degree or certificate from accredited technical school

· Ability to work well on his/her own and to inspect facilities and equipment.

· Reads blueprints, interprets instructions and prepares specifications.

· Work area clean, orderly and free of hazards.

· Ensures proper care and safety in the use of equipment and supplies.

Function—Duties and Responsibilities:

· Installs, maintains and repairs heating, ventilating, air conditioning and steam distribution equipment and systems.

· Installs, maintains and repairs computerized electronic pneumatic devices related to HVAC controls.

· Install or repair electrical connections to HVAC components

· Orders equipment and supplies (e.g. replacement parts, filters, sheet metal, associated hardware, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.

· Maintains appropriate appearance and good hygiene with workmen type clothing and wearing hospital's identification badge at all times
