Our client is a world-renowned, single-source provider of production and automated assembly systems for the aerospace and defense industry.
They produce a full suite of both mold and assembly tooling required for the aerospace manufacturing market, including the largest Invar molds ever made— making them the largest tooling group in the industry.
They are seeking a self-motivated, safe, positive, enthusiastic, and goal-oriented individuals for an immediate opening as Senior Controls Hardware Designer.

A Day In The Life of a Senior Controls Hardware Designer
The individual will provide controls hardware designs and electrical schematics for riveting equipment, tooling and automation systems. The individual will assume a lead role in the hardware design process. The candidate will manage project HW budget, schedule, and design implementation. The Senior HW designer will size and specify all power distribution, motion, and PLC control components. He /she will report to the Director of Engineering, Gemcor, with technical direction from the Controls Engineering Manager at the Michigan location.

- Responsible for being the controls HW Design lead on riveting systems and automation projects
- Manage the hardware specification, wiring diagrams, installation, and production support of the automation systems on the manufacturing floor
- Provide direction on implementing wiring plan to electricians for panel build and field wiring
- Assist in the development of company standards to ensure consistency in project execution
- Identify project requirements, specification, time lines and customer expectations
- Define controls HW and design budgets for system quotes and proposals
- Coordinate and provide direction to equipment vendors regarding electrical hardware design and installation schedules
- Utilize engineering knowledge to effectively communicate with customers and suppliers
- Responsible for providing all necessary information to the installation team to facilitate and expedite a quality installation of the control system
Other Functions:
- Support and maintain client asset management including inventory, updates, repairs, and replacements.
- Support backend client services including antivirus, user access, and network administration.
- Support client/server software applications in support of business processes. Trains end users as required on system changes.
- Collaborates with Cyber and IT team to support execution of application changes, ensuring compliance and quality standards are part of deployment.
- Supports third party applications that integrate with client/server software applications. (Microsoft Office, NX, Verisurf, AutoCAD, etc.)
- Adhere to strict Information Systems security guidelines in all cases.
- Proactively anticipates and meets customer needs. Must be a self-starter with a high sense of accountability.
- Collaborates throughout the organization, seen as a trusted business partner in accomplishing work.
- Work independently and professionally to ensure the IT team is meeting business expectations.
Required Skills, Education & Experience
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful job performance will be considered. Typical qualifications would be:
- BA or BS degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering preferred
- 5+ years’ experience leading control system project design
- 5+ years’ experience with designing servo controlled motion applications
- Experience with Aerospace Automated Equipment integration is preferred
- Familiar with manufacturing shop and shop environment
- Strong Computer skills and experience with MS Office Products and AutoCad
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and root cause analysis capabilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in control system electrical design.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD (AutoCAD Electrical preferred)
- Ability to analyze production specifications and integrate into electrical design with correct components
- Proven experience in controls hardware design, with any of the following PLC/CNCs: Allen Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc
- Strong knowledge of electrical power and distribution systems.
- Project Execution – Knowledge of project management life-cycle from requirements gathering through design and implementation
- Maintain current knowledge of new and existing products, applications, and standards. Specifically NFPA, NEC, UL 508, IEC and CE as they relate to control panel design and build
- Proficient in MS Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project.
