Position Overview:

We are looking for a qualified individual to fill the new position of Records Management Clerk in the Tooele County Clerk's Office. This position will perform skilled and complex duties related to the records management, retention, and archiving program, including classification, preservation, and retention of various physical and electronic records, and Government Records Access and Management Act (GRAMA) compliance. Manage special projects and provide guidance and recommendations to various county agencies and departments in records-related issues.

Example of Duties:
  • Assist the County Clerk in managing the County Records Management and Archives Program; monitor and evaluate preservation processes for quality, effectiveness, and compliance with the Utah Government Records Access and Management Act and other applicable laws, rules, and regulations; make recommendations for improvements; assist in the classification and re-classification of records.
  • Manage and direct records workflow for a variety of county agencies and departments; understand and appropriately interpret and apply knowledge of records management laws, regulations, ordinances, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Receive and properly handle sensitive and confidential information and records.
  • Exercise sound independent judgment; perform complex administrative work with accuracy; assist in records requests responses with administrative competence.
  • Function as an assistant to county agencies and departments in special projects and serve as a subject matter expert for areas of records, GRAMA, and data privacy issues.
  • Provide individual or group training for county agencies and departments on records and information management, records law, archival preservation, historical records issues, GRAMA, and other records requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • EDUCATION: Graduation from High School or GED equivalent with two years of increasingly responsible experience in general clerical, records, or secretarial work preferred.
  • KNOWLEDGE: Considerable knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, grammar, spelling, punctuation, basic math, and the specialized skills required by the position. Knowledge of basic software including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • SKILLS: Skill in typing at 40 wpm; advanced communication and organizational skills; read and understand detailed directions and manuals.
  • ABILITIES: Ability to quickly and accurately perform complex clerical work requiring a significant exercise of independent judgment and attention to detail; ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain quality working relationships with employees, other departments, the general public, and other governmental agencies.


This is a part-time/temporary position with no benefits and will work an average of 12-15 hours per week. Funding for this position has been approved for 2023 and may not continue beyond this year.
