Job Description

I. TITLE: PARATRANSIT SERVICES VEHICLE OPERATOR

II. SUMMARY:

An employee in this classification, under the direct supervision of the Dispatch Supervisor, is responsible for the safe, reliable and friendly transportation of passengers.

III. DUTIES:

  • Performs a daily pre-trip inspection of assigned vehicle and completes daily inspection forms
  • Operates a TARTA vehicle for the purpose of transporting passengers
  • Maintains order during trip and adheres to safety rules and practices
  • Maintains appropriate route schedules
  • Assists individuals or maneuvers wheelchairs on and off the vehicle
  • Records daily rider attendance
  • Adheres to all traffic regulations
  • Complies with all applicable rules, regulations, laws and TARTA policies and procedures
  • Insures that seat belts, hook-ups, and harnesses are in working order and secure on all mobility devices as appropriate
  • Reports any maintenance problems in writing
  • Keeps vehicle interior clean
  • Reports accidents and incidents in writing as instructed and necessary
  • Reports all traffic violations involving personal and TARTA vehicle
  • Attends driver meetings and training workshops as required

V. EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

  • Agency vehicles
  • Wheelchairs lifts, seat belts, and harnesses
  • Two-way radio
  • Mobile data computer

VI. WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Position may involve exposure to medical and behavioral risks
  • Inclement weather and potential hazardous street and highway conditions

VII. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Skill in operating any and all agency vehicles
  • Effective communication and responsive listening skills
  • Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations governing the safe operation of a vehicle
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment especially in emergency situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships
  • Complies with all applicable laws, policy and procedures regarding confidential information

VIII. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES:

A. Education:
High school diploma or GED

B. Experience:
Two (2) years consecutive licensed driving experience.

C. Credentials:
Valid Driver's license with less than 6 points on current Drivers Abstract

D. Ancillary Training:
Required Driver Training and Refresher Requirements

E. Other:
Physical ability to lift, lower and maneuver up to 50 pounds

Physical Demands The physical demands described here are either minimal, or representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The duties assigned to this position generally performed in a professional office environment while in a sitting position at a desk, but requires occasional standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, pulling, and bending. The employee may occasionally perform light lifting and routinely utilizes office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand. This is a salaried position. Travel There may be some required traveling for training and conferences, for short periods. Qualifications, Skills and Requirements • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university. An advanced degree with HR certifications is preferred. • A minimum of 3 years of increasingly responsible professional level human resources related experience with an emphasis on benefits administration. • Experience working in a governmental or public agency setting preferred. • Understanding of local, state and federal codes, laws, regulations and procedures related to human resources management, employment law and benefits administration. • Advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and database software.
