Preschool Teacher

Toddle’s teachers help provide a safe and nurturing, child-centered environment that encourages children’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual development.

In-classroom Teaching (Full-time, Part-time, or On-Call):

  • Implement developmentally appropriate caregiving methods and curriculum according to Toddle’s guidelines, ECE best practices and Community Care Licensing regulations
  • Communicate and interact frequently and professionally with children, families and colleagues
  • Encourage and model appropriate behavior and expectations, including positive discipline techniques
  • Be attentive, flexible and supportive of children and their families
  • Demonstrate respect for diversity, independence and creativity

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure required ratios and supervision of children at all times by following state and center guidelines and meeting the physical demands of the position
  • Ensure a safe, organized, clean and accessible environment for children
  • Respond immediately and appropriately to unexpected situations or emergencies; maintain mental and physical alertness at all times
  • Refer significant decisions to Toddle’s Lead Teacher or Director

Professionalism and Team Building:

  • Respond to scheduling communications and requests from Toddle in a timely manner
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with families, children and colleagues
  • Maintain confidentiality according to Toddle’s policies and practices
  • Participate in all required meetings/trainings
  • Establish and maintain a relationship of cooperation and respect with the teaching team, communicating directly and resolving conflicts quickly and professionally
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and flexibility in child care practices and participate in professional growth opportunities when appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 18 years old
  • Completed (with passing grades) or willing to complete one of the following:
  • Twelve semester or equivalent quarter units in ECE or child development that cover the general areas of child growth and development, or human growth and development; child, family and community, or child and family; and program/curriculum at an accredited or approved college or university; and at least six months of work experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program for children under the age of five or
  • A current and valid Child Development Associate (CDA) credential with the appropriate age-level endorsement issued by the CDA National Credentialing Program of the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition; and at least six months of on-the-job training and/or work experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program for children under the age of 5 or
  • One of the following Child Development Permits issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing: (a) Child Development Associate Teacher Permit; or (b) Child Development Teacher Permit; or (c) Child Development Master Teacher Permit.
  • Completion of 15 hours of health and safety training if necessary pursuant to Health and Safety Code Section 1596.866.

In addition, candidates will need to:

  • Have a current Department of Justice/FBI Child Abuse Index Clearance or pass CCL background and fingerprinting check requirements
  • Provide copies of transcripts/ class certificates with ECE units, health training and current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Complete a medical exam (as per CCL paperwork) upon employment including recent tubercular clearance (within past six months)
  • Have the physical capacity to interact with children, including picking up children who may weigh upwards of 40 lbs, standing for long periods, squatting, kneeling and sitting at the child’s level for short and long periods indoors and outdoors.

Toddle is a play-based preschool for children ages two through six. Located in a new, two-classroom facility in a residential neighborhood, Toddle provides a high-quality, emergent curriculum that supports the organic process of learning and discovery unfolding in each child. Toddle’s teachers have the opportunity to develop as educators through regular training, mentoring and professional development. Toddle offers three programs: Penguin Preschool: This 4-hour/day school year program serves our 3- to 6-year-olds and provides them the opportunity to learn through play while getting ready for their elementary years. Puffins Preschool: Our 2- to 3-year-olds make up this 3-4 hour/day school year program where social and language skills are the focus. Preschool on Demand: Preschool available to registered families by the day or hour with a reservation. Families who utilize Preschool on Demand are usually repeat customers, or families registered in our regular preschool programs who need an additional day of care here and there.
