Job Description

Tightrope Interactive, Inc. is an established, online tech company opening a new office in Beacon, New York. (It is the sister office of our office in Oakland, California.) We are searching for a full-time Network Operations Specialist who will be highly responsible for the uptime of our cloud and managed-hosted system infrastructure, the lifeblood of our company. When you’re not primary oncall every other week, you’ll be the backup for the other weeks. You will have considerable input and control over the processes for making changes to our systems. In addition to having highly proficient technical skills, you should be a detail oriented, organized, data driven enforcer who is also adept at being diplomatic and respectful to stakeholders. This position reports to our CTO and actively participates in daily operations in a hands-on manner.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oncall, first responder to triage and coordinate the troubleshooting of alarms or troubling technical trends.

  • Actively participate in daily operations to facilitate changes to, and maintain the health and security of DSP environments and protocols.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify critical systems, define, implement and enforce best practices to maintain quantifiable levels of uptime based on business requirements.

  • Share knowledge of best practices and internal processes with relevant stakeholders, memorialize them in our knowledge bases, and coordinate drills for testing and practice.

  • Gatekeeper for production changes working directly with devops, lead developers and other stakeholders to deploy and monitor releases.

  • Manage vendor relationships and budgets ensuring internal SLA’s align with their SLA’s, MSA’s, et al.

Qualifications & Required Skills

  • 2–4 year college degree in an IT-related program.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in a NOC environment responsible for web services running on IaaS (AWS, GCP, Cloudflare) and managed hosted (IBM Cloud) platforms.

  • Deep understanding of computer and networking hardware: CPU, memory, etc.

  • Expert working knowledge of all Internet technologies and protocols including but not limited to firewalls, load balancers, routers, switches, TCP, IPv4 and v6, DNS, HTTP/S, TLS/SSL, SSH, S/FTP, IMAP/SMTP, VPN, etc.

  • Thorough understanding of both virtual/cloud-based and dedicated (bare metal) server environments.

  • Must have advanced knowledge of Linux administration—experience working with high traffic environments is a plus.

  • Capable of programmatically and responsibly using scripting languages, regular expressions and basic API’s to automate repetitive tasks.

  • Expert working knowledge of network and system monitoring protocols and tools such as SNMP, APM, etc.

  • Strong crisis management skills are a must with demonstrated ability to solve problems quickly and effectively.

  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to interpret and discuss complex issues, explain terminology unfamiliar to others, and recommend solutions.

  • Compensation depends on experience and consists of a base salary and a bonus target.
