Job Title: Maintenance Assistant
Shift: 7:00am - 3:00pm
Location: Valparaiso, IN
Reports to: Maintenance Manager
Job Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
The Maintenance Assistant will perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling, hydraulics, and other building systems.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Required Skills/Abilities:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, required
Proven general basic maintenance experience
Sound knowledge of general carpentry and repair
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand, push, pull, overhead reach, bend, twist, crouch and lift periodically throughout the shift, as well as crawl into confined or awkward spaces in proximity to loud equipment. Must be able to frequently lift, push or pull 15 - 35 pounds and lift up to 50 pounds or more and ascend and descend ladders. Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time throughout a shift with the ability to seize, hold, grasp, turn, hold, and operate tools and parts with hands and fingers.
Work Environment:
The ability to perform all work on-site at Thorgren's Valparaiso plant independently. An individual will perform these job duties in a manufacturing environment with moderate to loud noise level within a small area. Potential exposure to varying allergens on a daily basis. Works indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to different levels of environmental factors, such as heat and cold, depending upon season. PPE must be worn properly at all times while performing job duties to mitigate potential risks.

Job Summary:

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Inspects and identifies equipment or machines in need of repair
- Assists in troubleshooting issues to determine necessary repairs
- Performs preventative maintenance on machines and equipment which includes cleaning air, water, and oil filters as well as greasing bushings, motors, and bearings
- Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician such as repairing drywall, painting, and repairing doors and other building fixtures
- Cleans and assists with upkeep of the facilities to ensure safe, well-maintained working conditions
- Perform all assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be well-organized and have the ability to prioritize tasks
- Effective problem solving skills
- Understanding of general maintenance procedures and techniques
- Ability to safely and confidently operate hand and power tools
- Basic ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, or verbal instructions for a variety of assigned tasks
- Good attendance record, with the ability to work occasional overtime and work outside normal working hours, including weekends
Education and Experience:
