Job Description

 The Westport Library has undergone an exciting transformation that is taking the organization into the 21st century and beyond. Dramatic in its redesign, the new space is unparalleled in its ability to adapt and shift with the ever-changing needs of the community. We are seeking a high energy Director of Finance and Business Development who sees the big picture while also being very detail oriented, is a team player and is excited to be a part of a highly dynamic, results-oriented organization.

Purpose:

The Director will have oversite of the Finance function and will be tasked with supporting efforts to maximize the value to the community of current key library initiatives including our newly designed Audio, Video and Post-Production Studios. He/she will also play a leading role in budgeting, revenue and expense tracking and financial planning. 

Responsibilities: 

Working closely with the Executive Director, the Board, the Director of Organization and Management lead budgeting and resource allocation efforts

Oversee a robust internal forecast program to ensure forecast accuracy 

Implement and provide oversite of the day to day aspects of all fiscal operations; ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, preparing and monitoring Library budgets, financial reporting, taxes, audit, controls, finance policy and procedures implementation

Working with colleagues to develop and implement plans to drive maximum community value from existing business initiatives

Identify new business opportunities, conduct market research in support of these identified opportunities, and build out financial models to define the potential impact while also taking account of organizational requirements and strategic aims

Develop compelling business plans in support of selected initiatives

Help embed initiatives/business propositions across the organization

Bring an analytical foundation to all work; partner across the organization to create initiative-specific analytics; and use data to derive actionable insights that drive the brand strategy

Administer HR Benefits and Payroll, working in collaboration with Director, Organization and Management 

Manage all business insurance and coordinating certificate of insurance requirements with Town of Westport

  • Utilizing business software, manage all library accounts (operating, restricted, annual appeal) and prepare monthly financial reports
  • Manage subsidiary ledgers for all library accounts
  • Prepare and/or ensures timely filing of all Federal and State Forms including 990, CPC -60 and Tax forms

Perform Treasury Management functions. Monitor cash balances, cash inflows and outflows. Transfer funds between accounts as needed

Ensure the Library has the optimal policies, practices, controls, and systems in place around its financial resources

Produce timely and accurate monthly financial statements and variance reports

Ensure timely annual audit and compliance with all fiscal laws and regulations

Maintain all financial records, including payroll, accounts payable/receivables, deposits, insurance policies, monthly and annual general ledgers and supporting financial statements and reports

Support the Library Board's Investment Committee with reporting and analysis to develop and implement portfolio allocation strategies

Develop and track budgets for new projects

Administer HR Benefits ensuring compliance with Union Contracts and Library Policies and Procedures. Oversee Payroll Processing, Human Resource Information Systems and Databases and ensuring HR Handbook is current

 

Requirements:

BS, BA, or BBA degree with an MBA preferred

Strong background, interest and passion for business development, financial management and entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurial, strategic, and creative approach to business development – proven ability to spot trends in the marketplace and create successful opportunities in response

Strong project management skills with the ability to administer multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize workload, and effectively manage resources

Sound judgment, high level of integrity, professionalism, a positive attitude, and a sense of humor

Proven knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written and good public speaker

A roll up the sleeves attitude, willing to go from interacting with executives one minute to taking detailed notes the next

Deeply strategic thinker with a record of setting and achieving ambitious goals

Highly collaborative with the ability to balance goals with diplomacy and relationship-maintenance

Deep strength in business areas and financial management with an ability to identify and evaluate business models, growth areas and business trends

Ability to think about achieving organizational outcomes in innovative ways

Agility to pivot between diverse teams and business functions and lead with emotional intelligence, curiosity, and a truly entrepreneurial mindset

Able to work through uncertainty and drive progress while adapting to evolving priorities of the organization

Budget-focused mindset

10+ years financial and business management experience. Non-profit accounting experience highly desirable.

Extensive experience working with financial management software, Blackbaud’s Financial Edge experience is a nice to have

Superior organizational skills, ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and extremely detail oriented
