Job Summary: Admissions Counselors identify, recruit, evaluate and enroll qualified students to the University and serve as on-campus and outside field representative of the University of Alabama. The primary duties include the recruitment and admission of new students to the University. These duties may include, travel, interviewing, making presentations, promoting the University of Alabama and screening applications.
Additional Department Summary: Primary responsibility is to process all graduate applications for admission from receipt of application through to presentation for Admissions Counselors. Certify each and every application, identifying and investigating authenticity, omissions, errata, and special situations with the applicant directly; collating and reviewing application materials including statement of purpose, test scores, college transcripts; establishing student file, and creating, checking and updating Banner records for applicants; applying specialist skills and knowledge of all admissions criteria for every department and college and their respective degree programs to determine if and when application should proceed to Admissions Counselor for review.
Advising students directly with application, degree program, and general Graduate School admissions processes, procedures, and requirements. Advising and assisting all graduate departments with their applications including reporting management information and applications details.
Position requires thorough knowledge of Graduate Catalog and Graduate Council policies with regard to graduate applications and degree programs so that correct advice can be given without supervision. Supporting all Graduate School recruitment activities, including managing recruitment seminars, planning and preparation for recruitment events, supporting catering for recruitment events, plus general administration of recruitment events. Assist with recruitment off campus travel to recruitment fairs and representing Graduate School admissions officers.
Attend and assist with each graduate commencement, including marshaling students, training degree candidates on process and procedure for commencement. Deputize for Admissions Counselors in all aspects of their position. Assist with the administration of and participation in the annual Graduate School Workshop for new Graduate Teaching Assistants. Responsible for all catering for all Graduate School events. Responsible for managing office supplies inventory, reordering as appropriate. Responsible for supplies and maintenance for Graduate School office copier and fax machines. Supporting Director of Administration with financial activities such as ordering, processing DTA's, including operating a Graduate School credit card. Receiving, opening, sorting, and distributing all incoming mail. Managing Graduate School office student employees involved in applications and general office administration; includes responsibility as Timekeeper on ETime system. Primary reception position for Graduate School office includes supervising student workers who answer main telephone lines, and greet all visitors.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma and four (4) years of experience in student recruitment, university admissions, public relations, marketing, sales, communications, education or counseling; OR Bachelor's degree and six (6) months of experience in student recruitment, university admissions, public relations, marketing, sales, communications, education or counseling.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.
